Breaking Update: New Seattle TV Deal for this Huge Event!

We hear that an official announcement is coming this week that Fox13 will now be the brand new partner of SEAFAIR, the city's major, traditional and famous summer event.

More details to come probably Thursday on the morning news, but it's been 'pirated' away from KIRO, which airs the annual Torchlight Parade.  Also hearing Fox 13 will televise the Lake Union fireworks on July 4, taking it from King.   No info on the Hydros telecast which has been on King/Kong.

Aggressive move!

PS.. KOMO would never bid for this. Sinclair's agenda is to tear down cities, not promote them.  Cut and dried.  KING crippled by Nexstar litigation when this was likely up for grabs.

  1. This is an aggressive move by Fox 13 and my first impression of this is that this is perhaps the most noticeable casualty yet for KIRO resulting from their overall cutbacks over the past few years. As to the hydros Wayne, KING has to my knowledge been working with a network over in Spokane, SWX, on that coverage. Fox 13 IMO I believe has the resources and manpower to produce a hydro broadcast themselves and perhaps bring back what KIRO had previously with all-day coverage of the races. So that will be something worth paying some attention to

  2. A bold move by Fox 13! This not only further solidifies their status as the top station for sports in town, but it also sets them on a path to becoming the top community events station in town.

  3. Hydro coverage with SWX (KHQ/KNDO/KNDU) has now parternered with FOX 13 on news coverage so they could then partner with them the coverage.

  4. Waaaay back in the 1960s-70s all three Seattle network stations covered the Seafair races live. What a circus! Three sets of cameras, anchor positions, mobile control rooms (KIRO’s was a huge white thing called Moby Bus) — and none paid for exclusive rights. Working the races and parade was grueling but fun and built a lot of in-house production skills and camaraderie.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
