Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.

Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

  1. She has certainly made her mark on the industry.

  2. So sorry to hear she is leaving. For some of us OLD folks, she has been a joyful voice in a world of miserable news. She has a tremendous gift of making bad weather seem not so bad. She will be missed. Good wishes, Rebecca.

  3. She has issues for an News Director to deal with, I can attest. Obviously a resume that has traveled extensively. But her on-air presentation is consistent and that has served her well amid the many changes, just since I knew her at NWCN in 2005.

  5. I am so sad that she is no longer on air here in Seattle...my favorite weather reporter. I so admire her command of English, her ability to give a complete weather report without rambling in repetition. Wish her joy in a new adventure.

  8. Sad to hear Rebecca is no longer on KOMO. Her forecasting was professional, and she was knowledgeable of the region. We wish her well in her new endeavors.

  9. It is highly unusual for someone to be invited to work for and then subsequently released from every station in town.

  11. So sad to hear this. Rebecca was definitely my favorite weather forecaster. She always had lots of smiles, which made her a joy to watch. Best of luck Rebecca!

  12. I liked Rebecca. I just really miss Abby Acone on KOMO, I know she's on Q13, but I wish KOMO would bring her back since Rebecca is now gone. Not a fan of Stella Sun.

  13. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to Rebecca Stevenson and miss her TV presence. Was she pushed out or did she go on her own terms? We’re sad that there wasn’t a send off on KOMO with an announcement about the change.

  14. Rebecca Stevenson was rumored to have some medical issues which seem apparent when speaking. Taking deep breaths in between sentences, wish Komo would dump the silly Shannon O'Donnell and the boring Mary Nam.

    1. Well, Shannon is now the chief and probably the best person to have succeeded Steve Pool (RIP). I don't think there is anyone on the weather staff who has those chops. Theron has been there since 2000, and while he is a "not good, not bad" anchor, reporter and weathercaster, his strength is versatility. George is still new to the area, but he has the most experience next to Shannon and a pleasant rapport with the AM team. Stella is also new, but her presentation as a field reporter and weathercaster is rough and doesn't come off well, especially what you expect in the 13th TV market.

  15. So sorry to see Rebecca Stevenson go. She was a pro. Not giving us the can hardly watch other stations weather they talk like a first grade teacher talking to her class . Can barely stand to watch other stations where they try to be so cute taking about raindrops don’t forget to dress warm and all that nonsense!

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.
