Another overblown Seattle TV goodbye post

This time it's not from the departing KOMO talent, but her co-anchor Steve McCarron,  bidding her farewell and move to a competitor, KIRO.

"Well, the day I’ve been dreading for months is finally here… my dear friend Tyrah Majors’ last at KOMO & ARC Seattle.

It’s been a tough week - going to be honest - knowing this day has been coming. Quite emotional at times.

I know we’re not saying goodbye. She’ll still be in Seattle - just a few blocks away - beginning the next chapter in her already accomplished and impressive, young career.

But I will deeply miss seeing her beautiful smile as I walk into the studio each morning. And I will deeply miss looking over to see her sitting by my side on the ARC Seattle set - ready to engage in deeper conversations about the issues and events that affect our wonderful community.

I’ve loved every minute of our time together.

And I’m so proud of what we’ve built together - as part of a wonderful team that goes far beyond a camera lens.

Even before ARC Seattle launched on January 1, 2024, Tyrah and I hosted a weekly YouTube show called ‘Sound On’ on a small set in the corner of one of our other studios at KOMO Plaza.

That transformed into a new, 2-hour morning show on KUNS-TV, the current home of the local CW Network. The show eventually expanded to 3 hours each weekday morning before some changes were made earlier this year. After its debut, the show quickly became a model for other ARCs in television markets across the country. We’re very proud of that.

During these 2 projects, we became good friends.

And I hope our friendship, our natural chemistry, and our mutual respect for each other came across on camera. After all, the “A” in ARC stands for authenticity. And we always hoped to live up to that.

Tyrah, I have learned so much from you these past several years. You’ve not only made me a better person - you’ve made me a better journalist.

You are such a beautiful person - inside and out. And I am just one of the many people you have touchedl during your 5+ years inside this massive building on the corner of 4th & Broad right across the street from the Space Needle.

Thank you for everything, dear friend.

I know you will continue to shine and soar in this next chapter of your life. And I will be cheering you on every step of the way.

I look forward to sharing a table with you again someday." ❤️

TMI...period.   IMHO

  1. The post may be a bit much, but it does show how hard McCarron is taking Majors' move to KIRO. It can't be easy losing a colleague you work so closely with and respect so much in an abrupt manner like this.

    1. As you saw in the post, the show went to three hours at one point and it is one hour is a steady decline. He's out there in misery without company to love. The show is not helping Steve at all.

    2. I did see that, and Majors' departure may only accelerate the decline. It will be interesting to see what happens, and I certainly hope that McCarron will be okay when all is said and done.

  2. Okay, call me the odd poster out on this one, but these goodbyes can best be saved for in person rather than to post it online. When you read this online, it becomes like a full-blown soap opera. I never saw the whole point of ARC Seattle other than it was just a CliffNotes newscast and subpar if at best. Sorry, McCarron but you got to stop with the puppy tears.

  3. Not at all. Private goodbyes are good. Tearful public ones are overkill. Steve has been published about some personal struggles, so she may have been a shoulder, but not necessary at all.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Major change for Majors!

Tyrah Majors, KOMO morning traffic anchor and ARC Seattle co-host is entering the transfer portal, joining the KIRO morning news team on July 5 per her post on Instagram. Her last day at KOMO is June 26.   It's the first big anchor move by 7's new news boss.  Plus previously adding Nia Bliss (Wong-ex Fox 13) and Heather Bosch freelance (ex-Kiro radio).  Interesting to see exactly what her role there will be.  KIRO has a morning traffic anchor and an established news team in Dee Dee and Linzi plus Nick Allard on weather.    Waiting to hear more.    Majors also said she will continue teaching at Seattle U.     I have not been impressed by her work on ARC. Steve McCarron has carried her along. She's a strong brand builder, however.   You can search my previous posts about her on the site.   Could this also signal the end of ARC? I posted last week that a major move was going to happen in the market.  KING ...
