425 Magazine has awarded KING morning anchor Jake Whittenberg as Best TV personality, something every journalist hopes for, uh huh.
"Congratulations @jakewhittenberg! @425magazine readers voted him Best TV personality! Check out the latest “Best of 425” issue." Should drive subscriptions, right?
425 mag probably has fewer readers than the eyeglass end cap stand at Walgreens. For those who have barely heard of the magazine, join the club. In other words, meh. What was the line? "Damned by faint praise."

He's ok, I guess, but what's next for him. Not sure.

I wonder what their metrics are… since Tyrah Majors was in 2023…. https://www.425magazine.com/bestof425/best-of-425-2023/article_da8413bc-e2e5-11ed-9946-6f5b44790d22.html
ReplyDeleteFlavor of the month. Jake didn't know how to anchor till I coached him.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that you had a hand in turning Jake into an anchor! I don't think I ever saw him anchor on NWCN.
DeleteThe ND at KING sent him up to me for tape critiques and he anchored a handful of times on cable.
DeleteInteresting. I'm glad you were able to help him. He might not be the best anchor in town, but no doubt he would be worse off if not for your help.
DeleteThanks for the compliment, but I think his skills have improved farore because he's had the flexibility to develop his own style. Mornings open up that potential. Is he better than Greg Copeland? No. Better than David Rose? No. The transition out of mornings to lead husky is tough.
DeleteHe needs more coaching.
ReplyDeleteDon't see him ever advancing to main male evening lead. A.M. is the ceiling.
ReplyDeleteMornings suit his personality quite well. That being said, he was a great reporter for the evening newscasts back when he was North Sound Bureau Chief, so he might have it in him.
DeleteHe seems more of an actor playing the part of a news anchor.
