Seattle TV anchor gets honored? From this Org?

425 Magazine has awarded KING morning anchor Jake Whittenberg as Best TV personality, something every journalist hopes for, uh huh.

"Congratulations @jakewhittenberg! @425magazine readers voted him Best TV personality! Check out the latest “Best of 425” issue."    Should drive subscriptions, right?

425 mag probably has fewer readers than the eyeglass end cap stand at Walgreens.  For those who have barely heard of the magazine, join the club.     In other words, meh.  What was the line?  "Damned by faint praise."

He's ok, I guess, but what's next for him.   Not sure.

  1. I wonder what their metrics are… since Tyrah Majors was in 2023…. https://www.425magazine.com/bestof425/best-of-425-2023/article_da8413bc-e2e5-11ed-9946-6f5b44790d22.html

  2. Flavor of the month. Jake didn't know how to anchor till I coached him.

    1. I didn't know that you had a hand in turning Jake into an anchor! I don't think I ever saw him anchor on NWCN.

    2. The ND at KING sent him up to me for tape critiques and he anchored a handful of times on cable.

    3. Interesting. I'm glad you were able to help him. He might not be the best anchor in town, but no doubt he would be worse off if not for your help.

    4. Thanks for the compliment, but I think his skills have improved farore because he's had the flexibility to develop his own style. Mornings open up that potential. Is he better than Greg Copeland? No. Better than David Rose? No. The transition out of mornings to lead husky is tough.

  3. He needs more coaching.

  4. Don't see him ever advancing to main male evening lead. A.M. is the ceiling.

    1. Mornings suit his personality quite well. That being said, he was a great reporter for the evening newscasts back when he was North Sound Bureau Chief, so he might have it in him.

  5. He seems more of an actor playing the part of a news anchor.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Major change for Majors!

Tyrah Majors, KOMO morning traffic anchor and ARC Seattle co-host is entering the transfer portal, joining the KIRO morning news team on July 5 per her post on Instagram. Her last day at KOMO is June 26.   It's the first big anchor move by 7's new news boss.  Plus previously adding Nia Bliss (Wong-ex Fox 13) and Heather Bosch freelance (ex-Kiro radio).  Interesting to see exactly what her role there will be.  KIRO has a morning traffic anchor and an established news team in Dee Dee and Linzi plus Nick Allard on weather.    Waiting to hear more.    Majors also said she will continue teaching at Seattle U.     I have not been impressed by her work on ARC. Steve McCarron has carried her along. She's a strong brand builder, however.   You can search my previous posts about her on the site.   Could this also signal the end of ARC? I posted last week that a major move was going to happen in the market.  KING ...
