Is that a retired Seattle TV reporter in a current promo?

Watching KIRO 7 Monday evening when a promo comes on just before the 7 pm show.  It reads RIGHT NOW in big bold letters + Next at 7, with a shot of Deborah Horne.   Too bad she retired on Oct 8 after three decades!

Oh, and back on Dec. 30, I happened to notice the station was still promoting several stories by Jesse Jones, who left in 2024!   See below.    They now seem to be gone when I checked back on Monday eve as well.

Is there no one in Creative Services or is it just laziness or both?   Is ND Laura Evans watching her own air?   Could they freshen this promo after 3.5 months after Horne left, do you think?

Click on the link below and look at the top of the page after the pre-rolls.   Again, found this on Dec 30.

  1. KIRO needs to update its promo to feature reporters who are currently employed by the station. Horne is retired now, and shouldn't feature in the station's promotions going forward, unless she were to come back for a special project.

  2. Problem with KIRO is that it really doesn't have any reporters that actually stand out when it is really their anchors who seem to be carrying all the weight in keeping the station afloat. You look at a KIRO 7 Investigates promo, it mainly features the evening anchor team of Horcher, Ming Laven and morning anchor Sheldon. I don't think they have a Creative Services person on staff (or even a department as a whole) hence the use of the "stock" promo and not to mention renting photogs from out of the state. KIRO was such a power house of a station, but now it feels it operates like a small market station in the 100's.

    1. They really don't have any standout reporters anymore, do they? This is not to say that the reporters they do have are bad. They certainly aren't. They just don't have one or two that really shine above the rest. If Sheldon wasn't primarily an anchor these days, she would be the one.

  3. Totally agree. The investigative promo play was an attempt to put a band-aid on the departure of Jesse Jones. The station likes high velocity show tricks, lots of gfx and heavy-handed, urgent copy, but it doesn't work at all on a daily basis. They really need some creative thinking to cover the Super Bowl, but I doubt it is there.

    1. Sadly, I believe you are right. The creative thinking just isn't where it needs to be for KIRO to cover this important event, let alone be on top overall, which is a far cry from where KIRO was in its heyday.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seeing some alerts on Parella Lewis' behavior in SC

She's on her way to KING in August, but Patreons on ftvlive.com show several colleagues complaining about bullying tactcs and not wanting to work with her.   It may explain why she moved from station to station in Seattle back in the day and wound up in a podunk market for years. Here's the post, you be the judge: FTVLive has heard from a number of staffers who described Lewis as a straight up "Bully." Now, normally, when someone reaches out to FTVLive and describes a co-worker is "mean" or a "bully", we don't pay it much attention. Not everyone likes each other and in a business full of big egos, there will be friction. But, the word "bully" kept popping up, when talking to people inside the WYFF newsroom. One insider shared a story in which WYFF Anchor Destiny Chance was to read a story while standing in front of the chroma key. One WYFF staffer described it this way, "Destiny had a shot at the chroma key after weather.  The pr...
