The Seattle TV Sports Shelves of Shame

Always love to point out how Fox 13 Seattle spares no expense for the set of Washington Sports Wrap, seen in this flattering post with no sports memorabilia in sight and most slots empty.   By the way, horse racing fans, that is NOT the Woodlawn Vase.     Set designed by Helen Keller?

  1. If Fox 13 doesn't want to invest in some sports memorabilia, or, at the very least, some more random decor items to liven up the set, then perhaps the Washington Sports Wrap should be presented from another part of the studio. Perhaps the main anchor desk, or the area where the weather is normally presented from?

  2. The only thing that should be shelved is the show!

  3. With the money the station makes with all the games they carry and Aaron Levine makes (not to mention he drives a Mercedes-Benz), how could they not invest in adding something that showcases a little Seattle sports flavor (i.e., a Supersonics jersey or a Sounders soccer ball) rather than going on the generic like an ordinary football or baseball that you get at a Big 5. I know it's done in the studio, but it makes it look like its presented in some random mancave. Another thing is to actually invest in some "decent" talent. The folks they have are more interested in finding out where the camera is rather than offering their expertise and knowledge. It feels like "All About Me TV" or "look ma, I'm on TV". Just a thought.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Frankie Flees KIRO7

UPDATE:  Frankie got married!!! Acting on tips from two of my loyal readers, I see that Weekend Weather Wizard Frankie Katafias is indeed missing from the KIRO 7 website.  Freelancer Scott Haveson filled in this past Sunday and we know that reporter Brandon Thompson has hit the weather wall in the past as a fill-in.   No word on if Frankie fled on her own or was told to.   She came to Seattle in 2022, so maybe it was a three-year deal that ended?
