Debunking the KOMO 'Minutes Away, Seconds Away' Promo before 6pm show

I put a stopwatch on the tease KOMO does in the break right before WNT signed off Friday night.  I wanted to see if their promo was in play.  It was 5:56 when they have an anchor say MINUTES AWAY and SECONDS AWAY.  After I posted about this baloney the other day, tonight, instead of saying MINUTES AWAY, SECONDS AWAY, they just had Preston aay MINUTES AWAY twice.  Truth in avertising.   I declare victory.    So, KOMO is trying to hold your through the end of WNT and the break to their 6pm lead.  At least they dropped SECONDS away, because that was 4:00 AKA 240 seconds.  What a mess that station has become.  Gimmicks, anchors in boxes with every VO and hyped crime every chance they get to lead with the hype king Jeremy Harris.

  1. The only one declaring victory is KOMO - #1 station in the market. That being said, their attempt at holding audience is a very 1985 tactic as is your analysis of it.

  2. How bout posting some May numbers then, to prove your assertion. Got any? I notice they have Zahn doing news solo on Saturday nmorning with weather recorded Friday by Shannon, indicative of a #1 station, don't you think? Please offer your own analysis, I would enjoy seeing your take.

  3. Saying "seconds away" only works if you mean less than a minute away. Not four whole minutes. It's good to see that KOMO has come to this realization.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Frankie Flees KIRO7

UPDATE:  Frankie got married!!! Acting on tips from two of my loyal readers, I see that Weekend Weather Wizard Frankie Katafias is indeed missing from the KIRO 7 website.  Freelancer Scott Haveson filled in this past Sunday and we know that reporter Brandon Thompson has hit the weather wall in the past as a fill-in.   No word on if Frankie fled on her own or was told to.   She came to Seattle in 2022, so maybe it was a three-year deal that ended?
