Hearing that KUOW-FM, which has led the Seattle radio ratings race for months, may have benefitted from a mistaken time shift in a recent measurement
In short, KUOW apparently got credit for 11a.m. listening when it was actually 4 a.m., skewing the day part. This would affect last two days in August and three weeks in the September survey. It appears Nielsen says it can't backdate the data for accuracy but is working with KUOW engineers to fix the situation going forward.
Not sure what it all means, but I know the ratings survey went from August 20 to September 16, which would have been most of the three weeks Sept weeks mentioned. Just passing along.

So this would mean that KUOW's ratings were inadvertently inflated for that period? KUOW regularly tops the radio ratings by a fair margin, so this likely wouldn't cost them their #1 spot for September if the error were going to be corrected via backdating. Its good to hear that the error is going to be corrected going forward. My question is how it happened in the first place.
ReplyDeleteWould seem that they got good numbers in the wee small hours when no one is listening, per se, boosting the ratings. Don't know enough about the mechanics.
