UPDATED: Interesting 13 guest on 5?

 


Alyssa Charlston-Smith, fresh from her first year as Seattle Storm TV analyst, showed up to talk about the failed season on KING's The Ultimate Sports Show.   

At the same time she's advertised to be part of Fox 13's pre-game show Saturday night before the UW game telecast.  Is she still part-time at 13, so I must say I was surprised to see her on a competing station. 

But this just in:  she's now a freelancer, per an unimpeachable source   May turn up anywhere.   How about sportsless KIRO.

    It wouldn't be any different from current Fox 13 anchor Erin Mayovsky turning up on multiple stations back when she was a freelancer doing the weather.

      Yup but IDC is correct - Erin before going full time at 13 was doing multiple stations for freelance weather. Anyway, I also have to wonder if Alyssa's appearance on the UW game broadcast may have to do with her potentially being Fox's sideline reporter for the game? Fox is sending a low-tier announcing crew and Alyssa also works for the Big 10 Network which Fox owns. So this possibly may be her appearing as an employee of Fox Sports/B10N as opposed to freelancing with 13.

      If I recall correctly, Erin has done the weather on KIRO, Fox 13, and KOMO. She has also done sideline reporting for KING's sports coverage.

      As for Alyssa, I reckon that Rhett may be onto something. It would make perfect sense for Alyssa to appear on Fox 13 to provide pre and/or post game commentary if she is going to be Fox's sideline reporter for the game as she would be able to bring that perspective to the coverage. And since Fox is an O&O, the Fox network would likely be perfectly fine with such an arranagement. It will be interesting to see what happens this weekend.

      That's got to be years ago for Erin, especially KING sports sidelines. In my 11 years in the building never saw her doing that. Anyway, yes, a Fox sideline UW gig dovetails for her being cast on the pre-game, presumably with Levine.

    Alyssa is a freelancer and doesn't have a "non-compete" agreement. She can appear on KJR or even on "The Dark Side" podcast as well. Erin herself was basically looking for a platform since her modeling career didn't land her plum gigs save for a commercial here and there.

 "I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

UPDATED: Seattle TV Weather Wizard's Finale

Her goodbye post below! After an almost five-year stint, FOX 13 meteorologist and part-time news anchor Abby Acone ends her run there with a final show on this Sunday morning.  Married earlier this month, she left no word on what's next.  Not sure if it is fully her decision, but I'm told she had 'favored nation' status with news management.  Before joining 13 in December of 2021, she worked three years at KOMO and also did a stint in Tri-Cities. Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.
