Rick to the HOF, Luke to the Operating Room, Shirah to the Desk

This weekend's big 50th anniversary weekend for the Mariners also produced a new member of the team's Hall of Fame as longtime play-by-play man Rick Rizzs gets the nod for 40+ years behind the home plate mic.  He's already announced this is his last season and wanted to top it off with a World Series, but that is in doubt at this point of the season.

Meanwhile, KIRO 97.3 reporter and commentator Luke Duecy writes that he has to undergo some significant and unexpected surgery near his brain.   He posted his story here:

And one more, reporter Shirah Matsuzawa got a shot at the FOX 13+ anchor desk Sunday morning.

  1. Congrats to Rick on his induction into the Mariners Hall of Fame! He has been loyal to the team through the good years and the many, many not-so-good years. This honor is well deserved!

Best of luck to Luke as he recovers from his surgery.

Congrats to Shirah on getting a turn at the anchor desk.

  2. KING 5 switched weekend weather assignments recently. Leah Pezzetti moved to mornings, trading places with Ashley Ruiz working nights instead.

    1. She's recently engaged and wants weekend nights at home with her guy, right?

    2. Could this have something to do with positioning Leah as Rich's replacement when the time comes? Having Leah working weekend mornings might make it easier to have her become part of the weekday morning team three days a week to begin the transition, assuming of course that Leah is going to replace Rich when he retires.

    3. Next to Lewis and Marriott, Pezzetti is KING's best meteorologist IMO. Claibon is too nasally sounding to work in television and Ruiz is far too dry.

    4. I don't have a problem with Claibon or Ruiz. Both are good at their jobs. But I do agree that Pezzetti is a step above them.

  3. Would not rule that out at all. There must be a plan in the works.

  4. Tremendous recognition for Rizzs for sure and well-deserved

UPDATED: Seattle TV Weather Wizard's Finale

Her goodbye post below! After an almost five-year stint, FOX 13 meteorologist and part-time news anchor Abby Acone ends her run there with a final show on this Sunday morning.  Married earlier this month, she left no word on what's next.  Not sure if it is fully her decision, but I'm told she had 'favored nation' status with news management.  Before joining 13 in December of 2021, she worked three years at KOMO and also did a stint in Tri-Cities. Fittingly, this last shot on IG is studio appropriate.    I've been frequently critical of her on this site for using the station's studio to post questionable videos (IMO), but for now, good luck.   Here's Abby's goodbye post: My heart is so full as I reflect on my final week at FOX 13 ❤️ 🥹 I’m incredibly grateful for my time here and for the remarkable people who made this place feel like home. I’ve had the joy of working alongside some of the most talented, hardworking, and genuinely wonderful people in th...

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.
