Her goodbye post below! After an almost five-year stint, FOX 13 meteorologist and part-time news anchor Abby Acone ends her run there with a final show on this Sunday morning. Married earlier this month, she left no word on what's next. Not sure if it is fully her decision, but I'm told she had 'favored nation' status with news management. Before joining 13 in December of 2021, she worked three years at KOMO and also did a stint in Tri-Cities. Fittingly, this last shot on IG is studio appropriate. I've been frequently critical of her on this site for using the station's studio to post questionable videos (IMO), but for now, good luck. Big mistake by KING to lose Chris to KOMO. The weakening of no-competes will aid other top talent in jumping to the competition. Will help prop up salaries in the industry too, as they have been rapidly declining for two decades.
ReplyDeleteAs seen with the numbers published via the Seattle teachers likely strike, SPS teachers make quite a bit more than most Seattle reporters, yet only work 3/4 of the time. No holidays, no weekends, no 3 am starts or 1 am finishes for your workday. And more money and better benefits.
When the tv industry is paying far less than a career that’s considered notoriously low paying like teaching, it’s no wonder your business can only attract odd TikTokkers and Only Fans style influencers rather than journalists.

It was a major mistake on KING's part to let Chris jump to KOMO. KOMO is really benefiting from his excellent reporting, and landing this interview with Barnes is just the latest example of this. Kudos to Chris and KOMO!
DeleteI believe Daniels was recruited to KOMO by the ex-KING news director who was hired as a Sinclair corporate news boss. He likely got Chris the job by putting him on the national Sinclair reporting team while Chris ran out his then-non compete clause with KING. It was a done deal and KING couldn't stop it. That's what I truly believe happened. Can't prove it but connecting the dots.
ReplyDeleteThat would make sense. It explains why Daniels was, and, if Sinclair station website "meet the team" pages are to be believed, still on the national reporting team, even though we mostly see him reporting exclusivley for KOMO.
DeleteThe KING former ND wanted to hurt his former station and help his new company. He got his King successor an ND job at Sinclair's DC owned station. Highway revenge robbery.
