Is the Seattle Media focusing on the right things after the shootings? Lots of discussion about delays about information and dignitaries delays and now calls for firing the Mayor and Top Cop? Certainly worthy, compelling issues in terms of public safety and timing Sunday night.
But should the focus now be in cleaning up gangs in the city instead of worrying about media issues. The questions are totally valid, but long term, but is govt response most important going forward?
Mistakes were made by leadership, but it is time to deeply examine root cause of the shootings here?
Is the media more concerned about feeding itself or trying to find solutions?

The media in Seattle does not do enough to hold public figures accountable. Softball question after softball question, taking politicians words at face value have become the norm. I welcome the accointability the media is pursuing - it is 100% warranted. Even KING, the most sympathetic to Seattle politicians, is asking tough questions. Somewhere along the way the media forgot their core duty.
ReplyDeleteThe Government response is an important part of this story, and is an angle worth pursuing by the media. That being said, a greater focus on addressing Seattle's gang problem is also needed. The media must shift some of its attention to that angle of the story.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been better if the media had vetted candidate Katie Wilson more before she was elected, and maybe this mess could have been avoided. Since taking office, she seems very naive and inept and anyone really paying attention saw this coming. Elections have consequences, but voters need information to make good choices.
ReplyDeleteMayor Wilson hasn't lived up to the expectations that many have had for her. I hope she will improve as her time in office continues.
DeleteIn future elections, the media must make sure that they thoroughly vet all of the candidates who run for important offices, like Mayor of Seattle, carefully, and report their findings so that voters can make informed decisions. They need to be given all of the resources that they need to do this. Our democracy depends on it!
