Eddie Olzyck had announced that he is leaving the Seattle Kraken Hockey Network broadcasts for personal and family reasons. He's been one of the top hockey analysts for many years and NBC has also used him frequently for his horse race handicapping expertise on the Triple Crown broadcasts. He has battled cancer in the past.
This is certainly another blow to the KHN after some non-playoff seasons and a change in top management. I wonder how long PBP man John Forslund will want to be with a losing team with little upside right now. He could do a lot better.

I wish Eddie well in his future endeavors. His presence in the sports broadcasting scene will be missed.
ReplyDeleteForslund can Wayne and something which I am sure a lot of fans have been concerned about especially over the past couple of years is him leaving for bigger jobs, and those have been open in recent seasons in the NHL. I would also note that like Edzo, Forslund is up here solo, his family remained in Raleigh after he took the Kraken job. Something to watch BTW as perhaps something that might steer him away from the Kraken is that Amazon Canada's package of games which he has called the past couple of seasons has been shifted from Mondays to Wednesdays for the coming season, and then there's also potentially increased duties with Turner also. Good news though is that the Kraken have a deep bench of PxP guys in Fitzhugh, Benton and Furness they can slot in if Forslund were to depart at some point.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that they had Furness doing pxp for a handful of games last season. Maybe foreshadowing what is to come?
