Hearing that The Ultimate Sports Show on KONG was the top streaming program on Monday in Seattle before the big World Cup match with USA-Belgium. My sources are not 'waffling,' BTW. But not sure of full accuracy. But fun to at least throw it out there. The show will be halfway thru its 6 month trial on July 20.
Now Seahawks Training Camp soon to open so both this show and Fox 13's Washington Sports Wrap will be goini's at it, while poor Niko at KOMO must fly solo and nobody at KIRO apparently will care.

Curious to see if they’ll release any actual data. What is their definition of a Streaming Program? How many Streaming Programs are there on Mondayin Seattle? Pretty easy to put a marketing spin on it with no context.
ReplyDeleteIf it's successful after the first six months, they might. If not, no.
DeleteThe show itself does show some promise but too often it feels like sports radio from 25 years ago. Lots of lists and rankings and no real in depth interviews. Still better than fox 13s show which seems to focus on sports like women's soccer and rugby too much.
ReplyDeleteWayne, your “poor Niko” comment jumps out at me. Seems like if he’s with Chris Daniels or one of the women co-anchors, you say you’d rather see him head up coverage solo. Do you want him to fly solo, or do you want him to have help?
ReplyDeleteIt's rather difficult for one sports guy to cover training camp seven days a week, anchor on weekends and have no second guy on deck. Daniels isn't covering two-a-days with him. Compared to KING with four and Fox with four, it's a load. He can 'anchor' solo but if the Mariners start rolling and when Husky football kicks off, it will be more than double trouble in the 'field.'.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of streaming programs, I saw a banner near the top of KING's website homepage recently where what is currently airing on the "KING 5+" streaming channel/platform was featured. The banner said that "KING 5 News at 1pm" was airing at that time. Has KING launched a streaming only 1pm newscast?
ReplyDeleteKong repeats King noon at 1, so that may be it for late comers.
ReplyDeleteI know about the KONG repeat of KING's Noon newscast. I've watched that many times over the years when I wasn't able to catch an earlier lunchtime newscast. And that could be what it is, and they're just using the "KING 5 News at 1pm" title for KING5+. Why would they title it like a live newscast and not as "KING 5 News at Noon Replay" or something similar is beyond me.
DeleteI wish there was a schedule posted somewhere of what all airs on KING5+ and when similar to the programming guides that are published for the KING and KONG television channels. But there doesn't seem to be one. If there was, that would not only help answer this question, but also make it easier for viewers who want to watch KING5+ to know what will be on and when.
I don't know. Separate station, new newscast for its viewers?
ReplyDeleteThat was my initial thought. Although it would be odd to subject KONG viewers to a replay of a previous newscast while simultaniously offering a live newscast to streaming viewers. If you're going to have a live 1pm newscast, why not air it both on KONG, replacing the Noon newscast replay, and on KING5+?
DeleteAbove my pay grade, LOL.
