Live Blog Seattle Center Sunday Shooting Coverage



Starting: 645 pm Sunday:
KOMO reporter Jeremy Harris with a great job on the breaking news Sunday evening.  Heather Bosch helped with an interview on KIRO.  KING stuck in linear network baseball now live on streaming effectively and so much for Fox 13 Live Desk.   DOA.

KOMO did a fantastic job on this breaking news.  Jeremy Harris and Tyler Cunnington dominated. They dumped ABC network for wall to wall coverage.  Not easy on a Sunday night.  Harris saying he was in the area downtown and responded quickly.

Lynnanne Nguyen of KOMO now live at Harborview, two DOA there.

KIRO, a bit late to the action, brought in lead anchor Monique Ming-Laven and freelancer Heather Bosch is live at Seattle Center just before 8 pm.  4pm anchor Sloss moved to Harborview.

KING in a Mariners taped baseball show on linear and should have broken in live, IMHO, then news at 8 with two reporters.  Fox in a kitchen show and núow in Simpsons. Shameful.

Fox reportedly showed video of the two year old being loaded into ambo with no blurring of face.   Fox abdicated tonight, period, from my vantage point.   

Police presser...nothing at 9.  OThey are in for an all-nighter

Harris of KOMO reads a statement from the Mayor.   Nothing substantive.

Kudos to Monique at KIRO, great, calm, poised, knowledgeable anchoring.  Really strong.  Michelle Esteban also orchestrating coverage very well on KOMO.  

Maddie Carter had former King County Sheriff, John Urquhart, on set to help her with local knowledge as a newbie weekend anchor on K5.

Gotta give freelancer Heather Bosch, ex of KIRO Radio, credit for a solid job at the scene.

KIRO shows citizen video of a suspect in police custody.

945 police presser??   Drone still searching area.

Fox finally on at 10. Hana Kim at the desk.  Franque T in the field.  She says "We're doing our due diligence asking the questions..."  Uh huh.  Four hours late.  No extra staff on duty.    Fox has sat on a meaningless live picture for 40 minutes, waiting for the cops to talk.  But where's David Rose, your surrogate cop. This is in his wheelhouse!

Three dead now.

Two suspects held, two in custody, two apparently shooting at each other NW corner of Armory.  Two guns recovered.

    FOX is all bark no bite when it comes to live stream coverage. Biggest chance to take advantage and they are nowhere to be found. Embarrassing.

    I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have died in tonight's senseless tragedy.

    I would also like to extend my sympathies to the survivors of this horrific event, their families, and friends. I wish all of the survivors a full recovery.

    Coverage wise, KOMO has led the way on television tonight. Harris, Cunnington, and Nguyen are doing an excellent job reporting under these circumstances.

    Good on KIRO for bringing in Monique to helm their coverage. Relying on a freelancer to report on such an important story might not be the best look, but Bosch is well expierenced both with local and national coverage, so that does count for something.

    KING should have been on the air sooner than 8pm, even if it was just with a short cut-in and a promise of more coverage later. The fact that they weren't is troubling.

    Fox 13 is failing tonight. No question about it. A story is up on their website, which is good. But their television coverage has been severely lacking.

    I really don’t get the obsession with Heather Bosch’s status as a freelancer. She’s been a solid reporter in this market for 30 years. You’d rather they bump her for a newbie who’s an FTE? Nobody at home cares if they are getting their news from someone whose income taxes are reported on a.1099 vs. a W2.

      You make a good and valid point. Bosch's status as a freelancer really wasn't important tonight. Her many years of experience and local knowledge were of great service to KIRO's coverage this evening, and that shouldn't go unnoticed.

      Obsession? Hardly. KIRO should have made her full-time from the jump. Meant to jab the station. Sorry it didn't come across that way.

      I fully agree that KIRO should hire Bosch full-time! If her years of experience hadn't made a compelling case for doing so already, her work last night certainly did!

      Heather's position is more of a sub/fill-in. If she was full-time, we would be seeing her more and given her "legend" status, you would think she would the lead reporter. Even Tyra was featured on CBS Mornings regarding this senseless shooting instead of Heather. Heather's role likely is to help out in the summer season.

 "I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seeing some alerts on Parella Lewis' behavior in SC

She's on her way to KING in August, but Patreons on ftvlive.com show several colleagues complaining about bullying tactcs and not wanting to work with her.   It may explain why she moved from station to station in Seattle back in the day and wound up in a podunk market for years. Here's the post, you be the judge: FTVLive has heard from a number of staffers who described Lewis as a straight up "Bully." Now, normally, when someone reaches out to FTVLive and describes a co-worker is "mean" or a "bully", we don't pay it much attention.
