From World Cup to Throw Up?




The awful week for Seattle marches on.  Vanishing leadership, excuses, revisionist history, you name it.

But...

Major kudos to Chris Daniels for great reporting Thursday afternoon on the Barnes resignation, the Wilson weak, attempted to come clean, Facebook speech on botched response and possible no confidence vote from Council.  So much to process on the fly

    Daniels is doing a great job keeping track of it all and helping viewers make sense of it. Its a lot to take in for sure.

    As for Seattle's bad week, the police chief's departure is now making national headlines. A breaking news e-mail alert from NBC News came out earlier this evening with the story. Not a good look for the Emerald City.

This is Daniels' full interview with CM Juarez yesterday, and for the councilmember to be as candid and frank as she was in some of her comments about the mayor in this interview speaks to Daniels building strong working relationships and a culture of trust with many of the elected leaders in Seattle. And you build that through a lot of experience, which he has from most of the arena beat he has been on over the years involving Seattle city government, including CM Juarez. You I don't think are going to hear any councilmember get as candid as Juarez was about the mayor with a lot of other reporters in town. KOMO/Daniels are probably going to be getting awards for their coverage and they are lapping the field at this point in coverage of this subject.

      The portions of the interview that KOMO showed on-air were good, but the full interview really shows just how important trust, relationships, and expierence really are in the world of journalism. Daniels has put in the work in this market for well over two decades. This week, it has well and truly paid off.

    That's it. I'm done. I am going to just pack everything up and head to SeaTac. I've lived here 40 years. This city has become a wasteland.

 "I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Major change for Majors!

Tyrah Majors, KOMO morning traffic anchor and ARC Seattle co-host is entering the transfer portal, joining the KIRO morning news team on July 5 per her post on Instagram. Her last day at KOMO is June 26.   It's the first big anchor move by 7's new news boss.  Plus previously adding Nia Bliss (Wong-ex Fox 13) and Heather Bosch freelance (ex-Kiro radio).  Interesting to see exactly what her role there will be.  KIRO has a morning traffic anchor and an established news team in Dee Dee and Linzi plus Nick Allard on weather.    Waiting to hear more.    Majors also said she will continue teaching at Seattle U.     I have not been impressed by her work on ARC. Steve McCarron has carried her along. She's a strong brand builder, however.   You can search my previous posts about her on the site.   Could this also signal the end of ARC? I posted last week that a major move was going to happen in the market.  KING ...
