Sorry, Sebastian, but you're not an anchor

Checked in with KING on Saturday evening where reporter Sebastian Robertson was filling in on the anchor desk.  Please, somebody at KING coach this guy. He is too soft spoken to anchor. No energy, volume, no urgency, tone, drive.   He led in to an exclusive Investigators piece like he was ready for a nap.   Sell the stories.   He has one job.  Don't mail it in.  Boring presentation at a time where he could shine.

  1. You have mentioned that you have supported suicide prevention work. Given the perspective that experience may provide on how public criticism affects people, do you think your blog's tone consistently reflects the same compassion and concern for human consequences?

  2. No, I don't. But a worthwhile observation.
I make comments on what I see. If a person is consistently on TV in a front line role, they are in a fishbowl and it's fair game for them to take praise or criticism. It's an automatic performance review and should actually motivate them to recognize their performance or social media issues, learn and improve. I did the same critiques when I was a news director. Nature of the industry.

  3. I’ve noticed this as well in both reporting and anchoring. Very monotone delivery. On one hand you could say he displays calmness which I can appreciate now that almost everything is considered “breaking news”. But on the other hand when there is a serious story or something that requires the public to act with urgency that doesn’t always come across with his delivery.

  4. I hope that Sebastian will see this and take your points on board. As we saw with the crewneck situation a few weeks ago, he is quite capable of improvement.

  5. Hard for me to take seriously a fellow that appears so young in the anchor desk. Looks like he is probably a senior in high school or at best a doomed intern.

  6. I saw Stephen Kilbreath doing the weather again on FOX 13 a couple of days ago.

    1. I am going to check the meet our weather team site a couple of times a day now to see whom or if any weather anchor gets cut to make room for Stephen. I know the one I would like to see removed.

    2. Summer vacations coverage I would presume when auctions are dormant.

    3. If Stephen is only freelancing, his bio might not be put back up on the Fox 13 website (he had one out there at one point), and no one may be cut from the weather team.

  8. Aside: Once again this weekend on K5, the anchor is reading the sports segment.

    1. I guess they want their entire sports team available for coverage on our six local World Cup match days, one of which is today.

UPDATED: Seattle TV Weather Wizard's Finale

Her goodbye post below! After an almost five-year stint, FOX 13 meteorologist and part-time news anchor Abby Acone ends her run there with a final show on this Sunday morning.  Married earlier this month, she left no word on what's next.  Not sure if it is fully her decision, but I'm told she had 'favored nation' status with news management.  Before joining 13 in December of 2021, she worked three years at KOMO and also did a stint in Tri-Cities. Fittingly, this last shot on IG is studio appropriate.    I've been frequently critical of her on this site for using the station's studio to post questionable videos (IMO), but for now, good luck.   Here's Abby's goodbye post: My heart is so full as I reflect on my final week at FOX 13 ❤️ 🥹 I’m incredibly grateful for my time here and for the remarkable people who made this place feel like home. I’ve had the joy of working alongside some of the most talented, hardworking, and genuinely wonderful people in th...

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.
