Seattle Radio host picks soccer over son?



97.3 KIRO-FM's mid-morning radio man Gee Scott is taking heat for deciding to emcee a Seattle World Cup game on June 19 vs. Australia, skipping his son's wedding in Ohio.  People Magazine broke the story about and there has been expected criticism, including Scott being labeled a "shameless self-promoter" by local podcaster and colleague.   Scott has called it the "wrong decision," adding, "I chose the job over someone I would lay down my life for."     Is this worth a Red Card?  Or just a Yellow?

    I believe he is on his fourth marriage so the fact he doesn't value that day for his son is not a surprise. And for what? He was the PA announcer for a game?

    If I were in Gee's shoes, I would have gone to the wedding and forefitted the soccer match. By working the soccer match and skipping the wedding, he sent a clear message to his son that, in his view, milestones in his career matter more than milestones in his son's life. If I were Gee's son, I would be insulted.

    Supposedly, a peace was brokered, likely before the decision, and then the story broke and all heck started to break loose.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
