June's Bustin' Out All Over at 13

Fox 13 Seattle has numerous June changes underway, especially in the sports department.   They've promoted sports freelancer Lauren Helmbrecht to fulltime anchor/reporter and she'll be part of the host rotation on the evening sports wrap show.    Ethan McReynolds moves to fulltime sports MMJ (multi-media journalist).  And for you Alyssa Charlston-Smith fans, she's transitioning from her former job as #2 sportscaster there to a freelance role while her new main gig continues as analyst on the Seattle Storm basketball broadcast team.   It's all just in time for a major sports summer and fall here and continues putting pressure on the KING bunch.   It's getting to be a real duel.

In other news, Fox is adding a new member to its streaming roster, Felicia Michelle, who moves here from WISH-TV in Indy, where she was a lifestyle host and reporter..  She starts later this month.

Good Day Seattle is getting a bump, too, in the person of Sadie Buggle, who joins from a station in Colorado Springs, where she produced newscasts and managed digital stories.  She will be an associate producer on the show.    She's a grad of the Cronkite School at Arizona State.

I still see an open reporter job just reposted on linkedin.   That may be the slot Nikki Torres had, not sure.

  1. Which is good to see because TBH Wayne I feel as if 13 has the better sports department of the two in town although KING with Silvi and Egan do hold their own and do it well.

    1. Its a tight race between Fox 13 and KING, but I do agree that 13 has the edge right now. KING holds its own, but the Baker situation definitely out a stain on things. And the fact that 13 is keeping Charleston-Smith on in a freelance role further sharpens 13's edge.

  2. Yes, with Fox having the World Cup and the World Series and a big chunk of Seahawks games, Ms in the playoff hunt, plus their sports partnerships, there is good reason to buck up. I wonder how much of a toll this morning show is taking on Silvi and Egan. Chris posted it took him two hours to get from Puyallup to the VMAC on Monday. I still haven't seen Baker on the air, so will check this weekend to see if it's Orsuto or Baker or split.

    1. FWIW: on the K5 sports morning show, they've mentioned Baker has been producing. Guess we'll see if he makes it on-air at some point.

    2. I reckon he'll appear on-air sometime during the World Cup. Its good to hear that he is getting some expierence behind the scenes in the meantime. Hopefully that includes brushing up on KING's history.

  3. That's a good place for him to build back his rep after that bumpy social start. I expect he'll hit the air soon as vacation mount before football starts in earnest.

  5. Yes. No longer pictured on Meet the Team page.

  6. I do miss Michelle Ludtka on FOX 13, and Furnace covering the Seahawks was a big strength for Q13 too. New crew is still solid. Prefer KING because they cover what most of us care about- Seahawks, Mariners, Kraken. Q does too much of the smaller sports which, while there are good stories to tell, just not as compelling.

    1. Yes, niche audiences and likely a time buy for the smaller teams. KING still holds the top spot plus has the most experienced people both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

    2. I like that Fox 13 covers a lot of the smaller sports. They may not be as compelling to a wide audience, but they do ensure that 13's coverage hits more than the most popular highlights.
