Her 4th Goodbye.


Madison Wade, a weekend anchor for four years, has now posted two videos and two written social farewells about leaving her 'dream job' at KING.  Three of those posts in the last four days!   Another dating back almost two weeks.   She is in every single shot of the final, expertly edited, video.  Can you say attention diva?   Even our friends at ftvlive.com weighed in, posting that first goodbye on June 11

    Years ago at KIRO someone used a Sharpie to sketch a dotted-line rectangle on top of a desk with the words “Place Goodbye Cake Here”. That was your big send-off. Oh well.

      Did a goodbye cake ever get placed inside the rectangle? Television newsrooms seem to love having cake!

    Wade's goodbye train is certainly taking a long time to leave the station. Four goodbyes in such a short period of time is a couple too many. One initial announcement that you're going to be leaving the station soon and a final message on your last day is plenty.

    Yeah, her initial announcement should've been shorter. The first video, which was from her last on-air shift, was OK. But the other one wasn't really necessary...

    When Vin Scully retired from broadcasting, he said he chose to do it at the end of the regular season (even though the Dodgers were in the postseason) because he didn't want to "say goodbye 12 different times". Madison's a third of the way there...

    There is a “money talks, wealth whispers” analogy in here. Joyce won’t need to keep announcing her departure when she leaves the airwaves. Others will do it for her, as she really IS a big deal. If you have to keep doing it yourself…you’re not.

    Correct. Joyce, Jean, Molly or Monique etc. track record of longevity will get the goodbyes.

      And they will have been well earned. Wade did well for the most part during her time at KING, but she hasn't stayed long enough to earn the goodbyes that our longer tenured anchors will when their times come.

 "I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Major change for Majors!

Tyrah Majors, KOMO morning traffic anchor and ARC Seattle co-host is entering the transfer portal, joining the KIRO morning news team on July 5 per her post on Instagram. Her last day at KOMO is June 26.   It's the first big anchor move by 7's new news boss.  Plus previously adding Nia Bliss (Wong-ex Fox 13) and Heather Bosch freelance (ex-Kiro radio).  Interesting to see exactly what her role there will be.  KIRO has a morning traffic anchor and an established news team in Dee Dee and Linzi plus Nick Allard on weather.    Waiting to hear more.    Majors also said she will continue teaching at Seattle U.     I have not been impressed by her work on ARC. Steve McCarron has carried her along. She's a strong brand builder, however.   You can search my previous posts about her on the site.   Could this also signal the end of ARC? I posted last week that a major move was going to happen in the market.  KING ...
