Not a prime time anchor?

Bridget Chavez anchors KING news after a huge playoff game on NBC Monday night.   Good reporter, but not nearly ready for a newscast that would be sampled with that big sports lead-in.  Not going to comment on the outfit while anchoring sports, too.  Staffing is thin.   At least Greg Copeland was back at 10.

One other note:  The Ultimate Sports Show was now advertised at 8pm streaming on K5+.   Not timely at all for late Mariners.  It's all over the place. Wednesday promo-ed for 9 pm after NBC game.    K5 a little upside down right now.

  1. These interesting observations lead me to four questions.

    1. Do you think that Chavez, with the proper training, has the potential to be a good anchor?

    2. What does Chavez need the most help with to become a good anchor?

    3. Has Pezzetti officially announced that she is pregnant?

    4. Who might fill in for Pezzetti if and when she goes on maternity leave soon? KING is running out of people!

  2. She doesn't seem to have any anchor experience that I can find except maybe while at Syracuse U. But more than that there should have been a plan by KING to have Copeland or even Joyce be ready for extra anchoring coming off a huge NBA game with Wemby drawing huge interest. Great sampling opportunity missed. I think she needs to build more confidence, improve her copy interpretation and conversational delivery. She could also go to a smaller market to hone skills and get more mgmt attention. Depends on her goals.

    1. Watched Chavez Tuesday night, much improved performance vs Monday. Good. My opinion; Maddie Carter is better on the desk,, but they may need her more in the field.

    2. Perhaps she saw your advice. If she is as new to anchoring as it appears she may be, the fact that she was able to improve so much in just one night is promising.

I haven't seen much of Carter on the desk, but I have liked what I've seen. I hope we'll see more of her on the desk.

I'd also like to see Alex McLoon get a turn on the anchor desk. His reporting is consistently good.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
