"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

I am not a user of TikTok, nor am I a fan of it. However, I don't deny the impact it has had on our world, and the fact that it has millions of daily users, especially younger people. KOMO needs to attract younger audiences in order to be successful in the long term. Since a lot of young people are on TikTok, it makes sense for KOMO to be there too.
ReplyDeleteThe key will be what their plan is to use TT as a draw to the channel or the platform. Will there be shorts, as they call them, with news items? But is that how young viewers will view and value it? Or will it focus more on pop culture stuff?
DeleteShort clips seem to be what younger viewers are interested in. Attention spans have dropped considerably in recent years, and, as absured as it sounds, anything longer than a minute is simply too much for some people.
DeleteIf KOMO wants to make good use of TikTok and be credible, they should do shorts with news items that can be watched in full there, and direct viewers to KOMO's website and newscasts if they want to hear more about a particular story.
If they want to do pop culture content, that might be something that the ARC Seattle team could handle.
