We reported here in February that Louisville TV sportscaster Dusty Baker would be heading to Seattle to be with his bride-to-be, reporter/anchor Maddie Carter of KING 5. We speculated he might help fill the void at sportsless KIRO7, but KING beat 'em to it. It has come to pass, and Ms. Carter helped break the story on X:
"So unbelievably proud of my best friend, future husband, and now co-worker! Welcome to the iconic @KING5SEATTLE, and the most exciting chapter in our lives and careers. After almost a year of long distance and waiting for all the answers, God delivered."
Not sure if he is fulltime or freelance, but the addition is much needed with so much sports ahead, plus the new morning show for the next several months, at least.
Lots of work-life balance in play at K5. This couple supplants a married Seattle TV couple who just left for SFO (Maddie White and Drew Andre), Madison Wade and Leah Pezzetti are getting married soon and two others are growing families.

While KIRO should have picked up Baker to help fill their sports void, it is a great to hear that he has landed at KING. His arrival will help ensure that KING can offer more coverage of the all-important World Cup even as the news reporter shortage continues. I look forward to seeing him on-air soon!
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting no one has already called BS on this reporter. He lied in his post, saying he grew up visiting Safeco field and seeing KING 5 across from the stadium. Buddy unless you were a kid in 2016, they were on Dexter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. Good catch. I posted about it.
DeleteA very good catch indeed! It is highly disappointing to see that Baker is starting his time at KING with a lie. I hope this will only be a one-time incident.
DeleteGood for both of them he has found a home at KING. I would have to assume the best use for him would be to pop him on that morning show as their host and have the producer of that drive everything for him until he gets more familiarized with the scene around here.
ReplyDeleteCheck a new post about him.
ReplyDeleteI just saw that and that was a good catch by the other commenter. What I suspect that was was an attempt to show himself as being market familiar already which fell flat and he struck out with.
DeleteDusty is already kicking up dust before he steps up to the plate, no pun intended. I don't know the value he has and to say he has that "Home Team advantage" is just an example of how today's newest reporters are nothing but influencers.
