Despite my disdain for the NW Emmys (and Emmy, in general), I wanted to post an excerpt from one of my readers here. It think it speaks dimunition of quality to the acquisition of more gold just because of the glut of categories and nominations. In other words 'Just win, baby.' The comment is available in full in the comments section for this post. But I think it is well worth additionally posting here. I don't know the identity of the poster, so it could be a competitor, but here goes:
"One category—Branded Content, Short Form—has a staggering ten.
Then there’s the dominance of certain stations, which raises even more questions. KING is running rampant, with KGW not far behind—perhaps a Tegna-driven phenomenon (though that may change if Nexstar takes over). KING alone is nominated in 36 categories. Even more telling: 19 categories feature multiple KING nominations, and two categories include four or more entries from KING. One KINGer has 7 nominations (Huerta) and is competing against himself in one of the categories. This is not a competition anymore (maybe never was)—it's system gaming.
All of this suggests a lack of oversight and rigor from NATAS - it should be more closely examined by a third party. NATAS NW is irresponsibly devaluing the very excellence it claims to celebrate."
Feel free to weigh in.
