Seattle TV will broadcast Mariners

Sources tell me that KING 5 is close to announcing a 12-15 game package of Mariners games on free TV.  Stay tuned for final confirmation near Opening Day.  Book it.

You heard it here first.r

Meanwhile, Apple TV has two Mariners national games in first half of season, first vs Houston in late March, and later vs Buccos.

  1. If this comes to fruition, then it will be both a big win for KING and Seattle's many baseball fans! It also escalates the battle between Fox 13 and KING for who the top sports station in town is. Right now, its Fox 13, with KING a strong second. If this deal comes together, the gap between them will narrow further.

  2. Nice scoop! Good news for fans. Should be a fun season and nice draw for KING.

  3. No surprise. KING carried the M's back in the 1980's as well.

  4. If true a massive win for KING. Basically being the partner for all 3 major sports teams in town. Seahawks/Kraken/Mariners. Nothing else really matters in terms of the Storm/Reign/Seawolves/Thunderbirds when it comes to moving the needle.

  5. While I feel Fox 13 has the better sports department over KING, if KING does get these games it would come as no surprise. Guess here - and TBH I would hope this is part of any potential deal with them by the Mariners - is they are going to get access to the studio space at KING which of course as you know is across the street from T-Mobile Park. And if you are the Mariners and no longer using the old studio facilities at the Root Sports building in Bellevue having access to that studio space will be so, so huge for them for road games. Curious to know if the M's A. own that Root building at Eastgate and if yes, B. has it gone up for sale yet?

  6. Totally true. That's a walk across the street for the players and Wilson for strong pre games, and studio shows like the Kraken have. Mariners writer Ryan Divish tells me heard about the deal, too. So it should be right on deck. I am certain the sponsors will jump on it. A lot more bang on broadcast for their buck than Root and better showcasing.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Major change for Majors!

Tyrah Majors, KOMO morning traffic anchor and ARC Seattle co-host is entering the transfer portal, joining the KIRO morning news team on July 5 per her post on Instagram. Her last day at KOMO is June 26.   It's the first big anchor move by 7's new news boss.  Plus previously adding Nia Bliss (Wong-ex Fox 13) and Heather Bosch freelance (ex-Kiro radio).  Interesting to see exactly what her role there will be.  KIRO has a morning traffic anchor and an established news team in Dee Dee and Linzi plus Nick Allard on weather.    Waiting to hear more.    Majors also said she will continue teaching at Seattle U.     I have not been impressed by her work on ARC. Steve McCarron has carried her along. She's a strong brand builder, however.   You can search my previous posts about her on the site.   Could this also signal the end of ARC? I posted last week that a major move was going to happen in the market.  KING ...
