New update on Mariners TV

From Mariners beat reporter Ryan Divish of the Times

"I've been told that if you watched games on ROOT via a cable provider last year, you will be able to watch them again this year. The exact channel isn't known yet.

I've also been told that MLB and the cable companies might not announce the programming package/channel till the morning of opening day.

Why? Cause they know it doesn't matter, you'll still pay and watch."

Still waiting for an announcement from KING on a small broadcast schedule, but the Nexstar purchase deal was just approved.

  1. It might take a bit for people to find this new channel, especially in outlying areas with smaller cable providers (Ocean Shores and Coast Communications being a prime example that may be relevant for Seattlites wanting to watch games while taking trips to the beach). But Divish is ultimately right: people will pay and watch. This is a team that very nearly made it into the World Series last season. This is not the Mariners of a decade ago, when the idea of even making the playoffs was something of a fantasy.

  2. Watching an MLB game used to be so simple.

    1. So true, I just won't pay another 20/month for so many routine games.

    2. I hear you Wayne. And MLB/Mariners are crazy to make people wait. To me this means Comcast customers are about to get screwed and have to spend the $20 a month to get Mariners.TV

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Frankie Flees KIRO7

UPDATE:  Frankie got married!!! Acting on tips from two of my loyal readers, I see that Weekend Weather Wizard Frankie Katafias is indeed missing from the KIRO 7 website.  Freelancer Scott Haveson filled in this past Sunday and we know that reporter Brandon Thompson has hit the weather wall in the past as a fill-in.   No word on if Frankie fled on her own or was told to.   She came to Seattle in 2022, so maybe it was a three-year deal that ended?
