New anchor lineup at KOMO with Nam departure

Here we go with the new anchor sked at KOMO at the end of  April.

330 Soliz and Koopmans (Kelly leaving mornings)

4 pm (Koopmans and Shen)

5 and 6  (Shen and Preston)  WNT with Muir at 530 gives Molly & Pres a chance to read into the 6.

10 pm or Arc (Soliz)

11 pm (Phillips)

So, an opening on the morning show and Soliz assinged to early afternoon and the ARC.  As I said, he is not getting the Sinclair crown coming from KING.

  1. What about the 4pm, the show Mary anchored

  2. On 4pm today, I thought they said Koopmans & Shen would be co-anchoring together on 4pm

  3. Congrats to Kelly, Molly, and Steve on their new roles at KOMO. This looks like a strong lineup, especially between 3:30pm and 7pm.

  4. Would agree that Soliz isn't getting a crown from Sinclair but I didn't expect him to get one either. Great to see Kelly getting promoted. What I think happens with mornings is they probably roll with Menino and Steve and elevate Fahmy into McCarron's old spot at the live desk. They can have Theron then run weekend mornings on his own although I wish they'd let him also handle weather as well.

  5. I think they have an anchor job posted so we may see a new face.

  6. Seems like a solid crew that fits the long time KOMO brand. Good luck to them. Not easy times in the news biz.

  7. KOMO anchor posting has salary range of $150,000-200,000. Not a bad paycheck, but certainly not what anchor money was years ago when being on the tube paid better than most corporate jobs.

    1. They'll save money on that hire compared to what Mary was likely making after more than two decades. The number certainly doesn't surprise these days.

  8. That listing is for a morning anchor. The evening anchor opening was up to 250k I believe, but that has been filled from within. Still likely half or less of what anchors like Jean and Kathi made in their day, and now the cost of living is far higher. Anchor salaries have not kept up with the doctors, lawyers and corporate executives, which is why so many now eventually leave to work in tech.

    1. $250,000 is nothing to sneeze at! That is a very solid paycheck! Well above what most TV news people make!

  9. Anchor to replace Koopmans in the morning now that she's been promoted.

  10. Why doesn't KOMO hire Felt? Good luck finding anyone in the Seattle worthy of waking up at 2am. I am sure they could do it.

  11. I am sure Felt would be a great fit and going from their postings, they have worked at KOMO before and have journalistic chops, not to mention three decades of living in the city. They're also a game show host in life? This Felt person is a treasure, not to mention a trove of local media knowledge. I saw on a previous page that they were leaving this blog? Is this true?

  12. He posted he would no longer post to focus on other priorities, but maybe he will have a change of heart. We shall see.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
