Joining forces for strange posts in a Seattle TV studio

Looks like Fox 13 Seattle weekend morning anchor Taylor Winkel has joined her co-anchor Abby Acone for these bizarre posts done in the station studio.     What's the purpose? Where's the maturity and credibility?   The limp-wrist stuff is offensive to just about everyone, yes?  It's not funny.

  1. Is the video getting lots of positive comment? Maybe someone should ask the news director for comment?

    1. I'm not big into Instagram, so I don't know what to say about the first question other than that they probably wouldn't be doing this sort of content if it wasn't getting some degree of positive attention.

As for the second question, I agree that someone should ask Fox 13's news director for comment. TV news often boasts about holding the powerful accountable. Its time that TV news managers were held to the same basic standard.

    2. I have emailed the Fox 13 News Director. We shall see.

  2. Very weak news management if this pathetic clown show masquerading as journalism is allowed to continue.

    1. KCPQ's whole news format is wearing thin. It is too fragmented and many of the anchors/reporters have been compromised. For me it is now unwatchable.

  3. I must agree that the blaring graphics and over-hyped delivery is insufferable. I fear it will get worse.

  4. Wait until you see the garbage Mimi and Jake at KING just posted on Instagram today. I look forward to your post about the unprofessionalism there…

  5. Q13 used to be my choice for.news. Marnie Hughes was so great on the anchor desk and Walter Kelly has such a fun and informative way of presenting the weather. (He could make a rain storm interesting). I rarely watch Q13 now. I absolutely hate the way they present the news now and don't think it is relevant. I think I could have warmed up.to Taylor Winkle, but the inane banter she has with the worst meteorologist in Seattle broadcast news is a huge turn off (yes. I purposely do not watch them those two are on).

    1. The weekend mornings on 13 are amateur hour with two weak performers, one of whom is intent on discussion her sexual prerferences using studio backdrops at her own station.

    2. Marni Hughes still has her “report the news, don’t be the news” motto on her Twitter handle.

  6. We also have to remember that the role of TV news has changed in the last few decades.

  7. Consolidation and corporate greed changed the role

    1. Indeed they have, and not for the better. The glory days of TV news may be over. But there are many bright spots out there.

  8. I'm waiting for Hannah Kim and David Rose to change their set from easy chairs to a motel room and they sit on the bed as they stare into each others eyes

    1. A failed gimmick to separate it from replays

  9. You really think management is ever going to reprimand Acone for this behavior? For all I know, they're perhaps encouraging her since she keeps getting away with this and pushing other on air people to do the same. Its different if Acone was doing this on the air during a newscast. Then again, not many watch TV news these days.

  10. Can't believe any other station in the market would allow it if the new about it. Side hustles on social media should not involve the station studio which is my main point.

  11. Try watching those off-air feeds on YouTube and you will see professionals caught in some off-color moments from NBC's Brian Williams telling a disgusting story about a technician sucking earwax out of an earpiece while at remote for a Jesse Jackson event, ABC's Diane Swayer drinking some wine and popping some pills? before a PrimeTime Live broadcast, "We'll do it live!" from a pre-FOX Bill O'Reilly and hammer time with MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell. If anything broadcast students are told, those mics are hot even when the camera is not on.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Frankie Flees KIRO7

UPDATE:  Frankie got married!!! Acting on tips from two of my loyal readers, I see that Weekend Weather Wizard Frankie Katafias is indeed missing from the KIRO 7 website.  Freelancer Scott Haveson filled in this past Sunday and we know that reporter Brandon Thompson has hit the weather wall in the past as a fill-in.   No word on if Frankie fled on her own or was told to.   She came to Seattle in 2022, so maybe it was a three-year deal that ended?
