Former 13 Seattle reporter departs NBC

Reports out of New York say for ex-Seattle TV reporter Peter Alexander is leaving the Peacock behind because of being passed over anchor jobs.   He is married to a former DC news anchor, Alison Starling.

He has the anchor look and has been a strong DC/White House reporter, but he was not going to be put ahead of Tom Llamas with his anchor expericnce at ABC.    Jose Diaz-Belart and Hallie Jackson (who replaced Kate Snow) got the weekend anchor nods ahead of him.    They had their own shows on the old MSNBC as well.   Meanwhile, word that he will have a midday show on MSNOW (the old MSNBC) and replace Ana Cabrera.

  1. I don't blame Alexander for wanting to move up to a weekday anchor job. He has put in the time as a reporter, and he has proven his anchor chops on Saturday Today. I wish him the best of luck as he takes up the gig of weekday anchor and chief national reporter at MSNOW, the old MSNBC.

As for who will replace Alexander on Saturday Today, it remains to be seen. However, I reckon former KING reporter Joe Fryer could be in the running. He has been a regular contributor and third anchor on that program for a while now.

  2. Good luck to Peter. He and Alison are very nice people.

  3. Alison was a KIRO reporter long ago, prior to goong to DC.

  4. I've always been a fan of Peter Alexander, even when he worked for Q13. What would be cool would be if he could do the Margaret Larson thing and come back to work in Seattle.

    1. That would be an interesting scenario.

    2. Only if MS Now blows up. He's unaffordable in today's environment at a Seattle station. He could go to News Nation and stay in NYC

    3. You make a very good point. He would command a high salary after two decades of network level expierence, and he would be well within his rights to do so. But that would likely make him too expensive for this market. Perhaps that is why former CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor hasn't been able to land an anchor job in his hometown of Buffalo, as he was reportidley trying to do in late 2024 and 2025. Glor's network expierence might make him too expensive for a local TV station. And the Buffalo market is a lot smaller than the Seattle market. If Seattle can't afford Alexander, theres no way Buffalo can afford Glor.

As for MSNOW, as much as they are changing their programming lineup at the moment, they don't seem like they will be going away just yet. Morning Joe, Rachel Maddow, and the primetime lineup still draw in fair sized audiences. And, if Reddit forums are to be believed, there are a surprising number of people who will quite happily watch MSNOW for multiple hours at a time each day.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
