First local TV Mariners broadcast coming soon?

Picked this up on X from a reliable source posting:  Friday, April 10 will likely be KING's first Mariners free broadcast vs. the Astros.   That's all that's circulating for now re: possible K5 deal.

  1. Looks like KING is getting ever closer to scoring a deal with the Mariners. Fingers crossed it happens.

  2. NFL benefits greatly by having all area games available. Of course, I don't know what type of revenue plan they have, but taking that away, the Seahawks are always in the news.

  3. Let’s see if new boss Nexstar signs off on these sports deals. It’s not something they’ve done at other properties so I’d imagine KING’s deal days are numbered.

    1. So true. KOMO was closing in on the original Kraken broadcast deal but at the last minute, Tegna boss Dave Lougee jumped in, upped the money and got it for KING.

  4. It is official Wayne. 10 home games beginning Fri 4/10, so there would be no need for the studio access (although it would be real nice for the M's to still have it IMO)

    1. Thanks for your insights as this deal slowly unfolded. I see on ON DECK show is coming, and likely a full KING production. The station location allows for lots of tape gathering for the show. They should hire Jen Mueller freelance to do her cooking stuff with the players for New Day insertion and her drive-alongs with players for the pre-game show. She worked for KING back in the aughts.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
