KY sports guy heading for Seattle

KING's Madeline Carter's heartthrob is leaving Louisville's WAVE to follow her to Seattle in hopes of landing work.  She joined King in June last year.

His name is Dusty Baker!   How sportsy.    Room at KIRO 7 for him as a freelancer for M's season?

  1. I hope Baker is able to find work in this market so he and Carter can have a happy life together here. KIRO could certainly use a freelancer for sports, if nothing else.

    1. Agree. At a bare minimum KIRO should at least give this guy a look

    2. Not to mention the World Cup coming here in June.

    3. That too, Wayne. KIRO has plenty of work for him to do if they wanted to bring him in. Yes, they have Eric there handling that but IIRC they hired him as a weekend news anchor. You really can't have him doing both IMO so they have to make their mind up about how they want to use him - as an anchor or their chief sports guy. And if they want Eric to be an anchor, then Baker would obviously be someone to bring in to handle the sports duty

    4. The question is whether KIRO and its parent company are willing to spend the money to bring someone on to cover sports even on a freelance basis. They need someone. No doubt about it. But that person, be it Baker or someone else, must be compensated for their work, and that requires money.

  2. Wayne is he good? Have you seen his work? Also, is it fair to assume he may have something actually lined up here? KING has three plus occasional on-air Bri, FOX has a zillion people so have to assume it is KIRO or KOMO

    1. He seems capable enough coming from a medium market. I don't think KING would hire him mostly because his fiance' already works there. Fox is full up and I don't think KOMO would be a player because of the woman being at the competition. KIRO is the logical choice if they want to beef up some before Mariners summer run and the WOrld Cup in town.

  3. I don't think Madeline Carter working at KING would affect Dusty Baker's chances too much at KOMO. KOMO's sports director Niko Tamurian happens to be married to KING's weekend morning anchor Farah Jadran.

    1. I was thinking more that they would not want to have another staffer with Niko's situation, but who knows?

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
