Fox 13, as expected, had the most coverage, with most of the first block devoted to the game, which Fox is televising. They brought in Chief Met Brian McMillan and morning anchor Mireya Garcia to muscle up the anchor team with Taylor Winkel, and with Abby Acone saved for pre-game show (I learned later). No stadium reporter live. Nikki Torres live instead from an overnight shooting spree. The show featured a bunch of social media fan posts about the game, reported the costs of attending the game, and, of course, promoted main channel pre- and post-game shows.
KOMO had the least coverage spinning thru the 8 am show with the biggest homage being the anchor wearing Seahawks colors. No live reports from Lumen. No taped presence from Sports Director Niko Tamurian, which was a bit of a showcasing surprise, even on a Saturday morning. I also wonder if they will have sports sidekick Chris Daniels covering the story tonight.
KING with its team partnership, promoted pre- game and post-game shows on the K5 app, but did not have live reports, even though the station is just down the street from Lumen. One reporter package unfortunately had reporter Alex McLoon donning a team cap (ugh).
KIRO has no morning news on weekends.
Obviously, the stations saving their relative firepower for Saturday night newscasts.
Anyway, posted this FWIW.

I always appreciate it when you do coverage roundup like this. It is interesting to see how the different stations approach major stories like this as their strategies can be quite different.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit surprised KING didn't have live reports from Lumen this morning, but it doesn't seem like they have any reporters restored on weekend mornings anymore, which is a real shame. I remember back when Roberta Romero was the reporter on duty on weekend mornings about 15-16 years ago. She was the only one across KING, KOMO, and KIRO (Fox 13 wasn't doing weekend morning news back then, and KIRO was only doing Saturdays), but she was excellent. For a time, Kyle Moore also reported on Saturday mornings back when KING was on from 6am to 10am, but that didn't seem to last long.
I think Kyle Moore left to be PIO for the Fire Dept, which did not sustain long term. Thanks for the kind words.
ReplyDeleteI believe he did. I hope he is doing well these days.
