Odd Seahawks Super Bowl TV promo banner??

I hope one of you could weigh in on this banner on KIRO 7's Seahawks Super Bowl coverage Monday.

It reads PLAY FOR THE BAY.  Is the word Bay subbing for Puget Sound here?  Is it synonymous?  Do we call it the South Bay or South Sound in normal parlance?  Is the Sound a bay or estuary or both?

Anyway, IMHO, I think it is a weak, mealy-mouthed slogan for the team's run at the world championship, not to mention current fan enthusiasm and pride.

Thoughts?  Other ideas?

How about 'Going Super for the Sound'?

'Seahawks go Super'

  1. Someone told me it's because the Super Bowl will be in the Bay Area this year.

  2. FOR? the Bay? 'For' in this context means 'on behalf of.' They are playing FOR a Lombardi!! Plus Santa Clara is the 8th most populous city in the Bay Area, so that does NOT compute at all for this idiotic slogan. Big Stretttttchhh.

  3. It is indeed a reference to San Francisco Bay, which only "works" (it really doesn't) because the game will be played in the San Francisco Bay area, of which Santa Clara is a part. That being said, it is not San Francisco Bay for which the Seahawks are playing for. It is the Lombardi trophy for which they are playing for. KIRO needs to change its slogan to more accurately reflect the prize that is really up for grabs here. "Play for the win" would work better, but it is quite basic.

  4. How about “Please look, it’s a ratings book!”

    1. Good one! KIRO likely needs all the help it can get in this department!

  5. Indeed, the Feb sweeps start Thursday so Seattle viewership should get a ratings spike just about everywhere. Good line!

  6. It is in the area of arch rivals the 49'ers. It is IN YOUR FACE! to that team. It makes sense if you follow the Seahawks and understand the history. Otherwise, you ain't from around these parts.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
