Two journalists?? anchor in Seattle

Seeing Fox 13 lowering the credibility bar again as TRAFFIC reporter Adam Gehrke co-anchors a newscast with WEATHER anchor Abby Acone.  No chops that I can see.  But I guess 13 likes to claim journalistic strength without having any, while replaying large segments every day.    Abby co-anchors weekend morning news on the Fox duopoly, but falls way short on the news side.   Not much of a newscast anyway.  Mostly mindless banter.

Nothing personal here, just the product tossed out to viewers.

  1. Is this the first time Adam has anchored the news sections of the newscast? He has certainly been an important part of it for a long time, doing traffic and some other features. But I don't recall him anchoring the news sections before.

  2. He's great on traffic info. Don't know if this his first stint in a Seattle news anchor chair.

    1. If I'm not mistaken, he is now the longest tenured traffic reporter in the region. He certainly knows that beat well! And in all honesty, he probably does have more market knowledge than most anyone else that Fox 13 could have chosen to fill in because of how long he has been there. There must be some sliver of credibility in that.

    2. I can't argue his market knowledge but call me a purist. I want someone who has covered a multiplicity of stories from crime to government to health and more to give me the news. It's why object to Erin Mayofsky on the morning news, for example. If you Google her name, her subtitle is ACTOR. Not good. Abby Acone may have a smidgen of small market news reporting experience but not in this market. She's too busy using her TV studio workplace to post odd sexual items and get away with it. She did weather at KOMO, too. Not a news anchor in any way shape or form. I blame the station for its shortsightedness. They don't want Matt Smith to pick up extra hours, or Franque or Taylor?? Money and/or comp day saving decisions obviously. I rest my case, lol.

    3. I respect your position, and I do agree that it is better for someone who has expierence reporting on an variety of beats and topics to be in the anchor chair, especially in a top 20 market like Seattle where a legacy of professionalism and expierence behind the anchor desk has existed for decades. This isn't to say that Adam is not a professional or expierenced broadcaster. He most certainly achieves those benchmarks. Perhaps this is a way for Fox 13 to give him some expierence with hard news that isn't traffic related. Or could he have been brought in because of today's grand opening of the light rail extension from Angle Lake to Federal Way, which is undoubetly a big transportation story.

  3. And I, your thoughts. Thank you for sure.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
