Seattle TV holiday rhyme time

I offered my national TV Christmas ode earlier this month.  Now, here's one for Seattle TV.  Hope you enjoy a chuckle:

Twas the Time Before Christmas

Push hard!   Feed the phones,

Keep the content gods fed,

Staff is picked to the bones.

KOMO’s righty agenda hangs in the air

Due to the Evil Empire known as Sinclair.

On Mary, on Daniels, on Preston and Molly.

That team keeps survivin' - by gosh, by golly!

Short staffing at 7 not quite as acute,

Will Cox sell it off or is that all moot?

Horcher still scorches, Monique is unique,

Allard’s great too, but sport’s up the creek

13 has Claire with always a twinkle

The Live Desk debut was an unprepared wrinkle.

On Wixey, on Aaron, on Hana and Brian

But Mets reading newscasts still leaves me sighin’

And what about KING, where awards are important?

If Nexstar buys, will its old rep go dormant?

On Copeland, on Taylor, on Mimi and Marriott.

No sleigh for Santa, just a legacy chariot

11 remains non-local each day

Family Feud reruns are easy to play

CBS owns it but what’s the next move?

Will KIRO fill a duopoly groove?

My talent radar perks for 4’s Stella.

Thomas at 7 is an energy fella.

It's the new immigration beat for KINGs Sharon Yoo.

13's Aaron Levine was on ‘Jeopardy,’ too!

5’s Frame’s now the news boss,

A brand new position.

But, does it leave her old I-team

In a weakened condition?

And I heard sales exclaim

As the ratings came down

“Not what they once were,”

Bosses just frown.

But keep watching the news,

Keep linear goin’...

AI’s comin’ real fast

So upstream we’re rowin’

I offer holiday toasts

For reading my posts here.

Wishing you the best season

And a safe, healthy New Year.

Thank you for all that you do to keep us informed about the goings on in the Seattle TV news landscape and beyond. You truly provide coverage we can count on! Pun fully intended.

Thank you for calling out the stations when they mess up, and for praising them when they get it right. Its clear that you care about the viewers, and want them to have the best news services possible!

Thank you for fostering interesting, engaging, and thought-provoking conversations through these comments. And thank you for adding your insight from many years of working in the industry. 1. Thank you for those kind words. It's a labor of love. Just trying to shine a little light when I can. Ha...I'm a poet and don't know it, as the old saying goes.

  4. I enjoy you letting us know what happens behind the scenes. Fun fact: Gary Justice used to be my baby sitter (a few years ago).

    1. How is Gary doing these days? I was born too late to watch him on KIRO, but I have seen videos of KIRO newscasts from his time at the station, and he seemed the strike the right balance between being serious, upbeat, and professional.

    2. I actually haven't seen him in many years. He came to Seattle from Yakima and started at KING before moving to KIRO.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
