Our friends at Ftvlive.com report that $1500 merit bonuses went out only to Tegna Stations that reached their 2025 revenue goals. KING was not among them, nor KGW in PDX or KREM in Spokane. Hmmm. That doesn't sound good for the PNW. KHOU in Houston was the biggest market rewarded. Even the Tegna flagship, KUSA in Denver, reportedly didn't make the grade. The metrics for that award include: Broadcast Share, Minutes Watched, Video Play, GTS (something about Gross Transactions) and Digital Revenue. Better luck next year!
KOMO source said the staff received a 'GIFT,' but not sure if it was cash. Have not hear from the others.

Point of clarification. The metrics were based on YOY. In other words, consistently successful stations get no bonus, but 3rd/last place stations in those markets who had one good year get the highest bonus ever given in at least the last 15 years.
ReplyDeleteSo, evenif KING is consistently sucessful, its hard working people to perhaps maintain that consistency or even overachieve it, get nothing. Here is the direct quote from the Tegna boss about the 11 stations that got bonuses: "These stations represent the best of the best by exceeding more of their audience and revenue goals better than any other group of stations." I guess the other dozens of stations are 'damned by no praise.' Basically, this allows Tegna to skip bonuses for the other 'best of the best.' I worked for Tegna, and I know their tactics front and center.
DeleteSo KING, KGW, KREM, KUSA, and other Tegna stations didn't do well enough in Tegna's eyes to warrant giving their hardworking, dedicated employees a well deserved Christmas bonus this year. That is a giant slap in the face to everyone who works at those stations. While meeting audience and revenue goals is important for business, these stations exist in part to deliver the news and provide good journalism, which they all undoutebly did. That should count for something.
