Fox 13 Seattle is leaving its broadcast nest on Westlake Ave in South Lake Union for a downtown, 16-story office tower called Axis 9 at 1800 9th Ave in the Denny Triangle. Fox will be an anchor tenant and it's announcment says broadcasts there will begin next November. It's a joint venture with Lake Washington Partners. The Fox-owned station is making a strong run at the competition with this move when you consider the other owners in the market; Sinclair, Tegna and Cox/Apollo who are seeking buyers and consolidation. Interesting move. I look forward to seeing how Fox 13 makes use of its new home, as well as what happens to their current home.
ReplyDeleteSeems financially wise. Monetize property you’ve owned for decades and lease cheap space when downtown office vacancies are high. Operationally, not so great for reporters and crews on the go.

Like the other three competitors it will give them a much stronger skyline view for live shots, assuming they have rooftop connectivity built in as part of the deal. doesn't use its live skyline backdrop across from TMobile Park as much as I thought it would. Not sure why. KOMO fronts right near the Space Needle, as does KIRO.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of skyline, is KING (or maybe it was KOMO?) no longer decorating their tower on Queen Anne with lights this year? Or did that stop some time ago? I just noticed this yesterday.
