Amazingly, KING was the only Seattle TV NOT to carry the first key speech by newly-elected Mayor Katie WIlson. The other three locals all took it live wall to wall. KING may have streamed it, but to ignore a linear telecast is highly unusual. Her election is revolutionary in the city, but apparently, not important enough to air in full. Meanwhile, Fox 13 merged its Live Desk on FOX 13 (KJZO) with the main channel with Matthew Smith joining Hana Kim for coverage over the usual TMZ. KIRO dumped a CBS soap opera! KOMO per-empted Kelly Clarkson. KING stayed with Access Hollywood. Yikes.

Why be the first to call Wilson the winner and then not follow up with the speech? If there’s a management vision of drawing politically inclined viewers the execution is poor.

DeletePoor move on KING's part. They could have at least run it on KONG if they really didn't want to preempt Access Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteI’m somewhat surprised KING never replaced the “drinks with Daniels” political interviews once he went to KOMO. Those seemed like conversations any journalist could hold so I’m not sure why they haven’t tried to replicate it.
ReplyDeleteI would think, first of all, they had no one of Daniels' knowledge and experience to take it over, and they wanted to cut any ties or memories to him after he crossed the street for Sinclair. KOMO could bring it back and call it 'Cocktails with Chris.' Good question!
DeleteKOMO should do the "Cocktails with Chris" segment for next year's elections. It would make for interesting viewing, particularly as the most prominent races on our ballots here in Washington, aside from statewide initiatives, are likely to be state legislative seats, which frequently don't get the coverage that they should.
