Interesting note: I wanted to see if Rick Boone, ousted as Managing Editor at KIRO7 last July after only four months, had landed a new mgmt. job, as he alluded to on social media just after he left. However, his current linkedin page says he is still at the station? It reads "Managing Editor (asst. ND) KIRO 7 Full-time March 25 - present, 9 mos." Ditto on FB? BTW, Boone has a reputation of very short tenures at multiple television stations, often in very small markets, like Gulfport, MS and West Monroe, LA, as I previously posted here.

Not a surprise. He might have forgotten to update that. A lot of people neglect to update their Linkedin accounts when they either change jobs or retire.

DeleteI did some digging and can confirm that Rick Boone is no longer works at KIRO but Daniel Herda got promoted to the Managing Editor job. He started at KIRO as a producer back in 2018.

DeleteWayne, you really have to interview this "Mark Felt" person like so many of your fellow commentators on here. They could be Dick Tracy for all intents and purposes. It does surprise me and several other folks who have been coming here they don't work in journalism and yet, their facts and finds are more accurate than any of those who are actually working.
DeleteCongrats to Daniel on his promotion! KIRO may be down a line producer at the moment, which may be an issue until a new one can be hired. However, the newsroom leadership now feels like its in a better position, and they can begin focusing on getting viewers back.
DeleteI spoke to a former employee over coffee who told me that they left their job after three months on account of burnout and communication. Boone wasn't a good fit and didn't get along with anyone there. Laura had her hands tied in getting things organized doing three or four things at once and people had to do more than what they were originally hired since they didn't have as many people on deck and more times than not, had to overtime or cancel their pre-scheduled vacation to cover the bases. When I asked if they wrote or reached out to COX Corp, they said response times seemed to take forever and seemed like requests for time off seemed to fall into this digital black hole or abyss. Today, they're happy to be working in a job that has better pay and hours, but also a strong management team that actually cares.
DeleteSounds like the inner-workings of the KIRO newsroom are in dire shape. Hopefully, Daniel's promotion can help with that. But it sounds like they really need to focus on adding staff across the board, from weather to management, to get things back on track.
