Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to all.

See you Monday. Don't expect much, if any, local media news till then.   I thank all of you for checking in and commenting when you feel the urge.   Besides sports, may I recommend watching Ken Burns 'The American Revolution' on PBS.   It's detailed, illuminating and thought-provoking, for sure.   Spoiler Alert: We Won.

  2. Thank you. Is there a way you can tell us which Channel 13 news shows are live and which are recorded from 4pm to 10pm. They won't answer my emails.

    1. When you mix live with replay, you first must lay down a base show. In 13's case, that is the 4pm. On subsequent shows, like the 5, the first block or A block, as it's called, is always live to include fresh or breaking stories, but the remainder of the 45 minutes is a replay. That continues as the evening rolls on, mostly on 13+. Full live again on the mother ship at 10 after Fox primetime.

    2. I thought the 10pm was also mostly a replay from earlier in the day? Its good news if its not. News moves far too quickly these days to be airing a lot of content from 4pm at 10pm.

    3. The 10 pm show is the signature flagship newscast on Fox 13, so I think it is live anchored throughout with lots of replayed stories from earlier, of course, but not a large chunk of a previous hour. I could be wrong. Usually in bed by 10.....lol.

    4. I'll admit that I am not a regular viewer of local news at 10pm in this market. I tend to catch the 11pm local news more often. That said, if Fox 13 is actually live throughout its 10pm hour of news and not exclusively in replay mode after the A block, then that is a good thing, even if a lot of the stories being shown are from earlier in the day. The key is to be live for breaking news and, where possible, to provide updates to stories from earlier that are being shown.

  3. Halloween and Thanksgiving can be a real double whammy to one's diet. I added three pounds. Back on the rice cakes and sugarless soda and preserves for me.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Major change for Majors!

Tyrah Majors, KOMO morning traffic anchor and ARC Seattle co-host is entering the transfer portal, joining the KIRO morning news team on July 5 per her post on Instagram. Her last day at KOMO is June 26.   It's the first big anchor move by 7's new news boss.  Plus previously adding Nia Bliss (Wong-ex Fox 13) and Heather Bosch freelance (ex-Kiro radio).  Interesting to see exactly what her role there will be.  KIRO has a morning traffic anchor and an established news team in Dee Dee and Linzi plus Nick Allard on weather.    Waiting to hear more.    Majors also said she will continue teaching at Seattle U.     I have not been impressed by her work on ARC. Steve McCarron has carried her along. She's a strong brand builder, however.   You can search my previous posts about her on the site.   Could this also signal the end of ARC? I posted last week that a major move was going to happen in the market.  KING ...
