I know there was plenty of pre game and post game coverage of the Mariners playoffs on the four Seattle TV stations. With FS1 carrying the games, Fox 13 had a major advantage and the flexibility to extend coverage. But I noticed at times, Aaron Levine could barely get a word in edgewise with the digital guy Curtis Crabtree rambling on, leaving Levine a bit frustrated. I do know KING used its streaming Plus app to do extensive pre-game coverage with Paul Silvi at the anchor desk. Saw little of KOMO and KIRO. Give us your thoughts. If you saw a lot more, please weigh in on what you watched, NOT your feelings on the M's loss.
"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Can't put my finger on it, but national guys were not fun to listen to.

DeleteAnd they would not shut up, filling every microsecond with needless chatter. The games were most enjoyed by turning the volume all the way down.
I agree. The FOX broadcast was not easy to listen to this year. The chosen broadcast team isn't really the A team.
DeleteLast night, we listened to the radio broadcast over the TV, until we went to the local restaurant so we could watch both Mariners and Seahawks. Radio announcers are enjoyable.
DeleteA-Rod is a Fraud with a fake smile. Can't abide him after all the lies. Can barely understand Ortiz and Jeter is a statue.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed listening to 710 , pre game too bad I’m not able to sync it with the actual game. Using an old iPod I’m able to delay the Seahawks games by about 30 seconds. I can hear the radio call in sync with the broadcast. No such luck with the baseball playoffs. When we did have the sound on during the games, I thought John Smoltz offered great insight. After 174 games in the end….. two runs short.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Mariners this season, looking forward to next year!

FOX 13 was head and shoulders above the rest because it was Levine. But where was Alyssa?. I had no idea that KING has a digital presence like FOX does, and even so they didn't send Silvi or Egan to Toronto. Not sure why the sports department sent the new woman who has no idea about the history of the team. and of course super fan Jake W from news who brought his pom poms. I am sure Nico did something but KOMO isn't worth watching.
ReplyDeleteAlyssa may be an family leave. Silvi had Fifth Quarter after SNF and Seahawks Monday night commitments with KING picking up the ESPN game so he may have been required to stay behind and not travel. Not totally sure. Egan did travel to Detroit.
DeleteI thought Fox did a really nice job capitalizing on the games being (sort of) on their air with FS1...Doing a full pre and post game to capitalize on the moment was smart and done really well. For local newscasts I watched KOMO and I was really impressed with Niko. He covered the standard stuff sure but did some really cool side stuff like going to Josh Naylor's high school in the Toronto area. He has this way about him that kind of gets you excited for whatever game he's covering and I was watching the 11pm news show----he was LIVE---which meant still bringing it full energy at 2-2:30 am Toronto time. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy to hear that NIKO got a true chance to showcase himself in a major solo role like that. I have harped a lot here that KOMO seemed to shy away from showcasing him by teaming him with news anchors/reporters. He is strong enough to go it alone. Thanks for your excellent comment.
