Walter's night off, so Who subs!

KING's Fifth Quarter after Sunday Night Football during the Seahawks bye week had 710 Seattle Sports radio host Mike Salk filling in on the show for HOFer Walter JonesSalk used to co-host the Seahawks Fone Zone on NWCN back in the day with Chris Egan.

  1. Tough watch this show. Walter isn't good at television. And doesn't offer any real insight. And Salk is insufferable on the radio so adding the visual is brutal. Raible saves this show each week.

  2. I agree...Paul Silvi holds it together. Walter Jones is the master of the obvious and offers nothing new, but fans love him for what he was, no matter what. If I remember correctly, Pete Carroll eventually refused to do this show and I'm not sure Holmgren was a fan either. It's sold as a great sales adjacency to SNF with mostly Hawks player reactions from games that were played hours earlier. This week the Hawks are on Sunday night football from DC, so presumably Silvi will be live in DC with Jones studio, so at least it will be super current. NBC may also help SIlvi corral some interviews since KING is an affiliate.

  3. Yea, I noticed that Salk doesn't project warmth. I like watching the The 5th Quarter after a Hawk victory. Walter is lovable, even though he may get panned by critics and even some viewers, he comes across as down to earth and accessible.

    1. No doubt he is, Mike, but do smart fans watching a post games want warmth or insightful analysis? I for one, want the latter. I talked to another analyst today about the situation and there was agreement that Jones was mailing it in.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
