SUNDAY UPDATE Two-day credit to this Seattle TV, for a change

***On Sunday after their CBS/Seahawks game telecast, KIRO brought in their big anchor guns again. just like after the UW game Saturday.   Elle, Monique, Gary Horcher, Eric and even chief met Morgan Palmer worked a Sunday to get major audience sampling.  A news reporter at Lumen rounded it out.  Five people on the anchor desk!!!  A full house.  Comp days ahead for these folks...lol.

Saturday:

KIRO pulled in their three major anchors Saturday night after UW crushed WSU in the Apple Cup, Elle and Monique at the desk, Horcher and Eric Thomas were at the wall for highlights and stats.  Thomas did the heavy lifting on the game clips  Another reporter was posted, as usual, talking to lubricated fans at a local pub, and later we got a live on tape from KHQ sports guy Noah Boelter in Pullman after the half hour break (really? You couldn't send a KIRO reporter?).  Also, there was a history piece with Horcher.  Eight minutes of coverage off the top.  As we thought, they front-loaded the lead block and kept extra coverage sprinkled throughout the hour.  Tried hard to make us forget they have no sports department.  B grade....Good effort, good enthusiasm and anchor energy, but, no post game interviews with coach or players, however, that I saw.

Unfortunately, the show didn't mention Cal Raleigh hitting #57 to take Ms all time HR record, beating Junior, until 8:52.  Should have been the exclamation point on the first block.

  1. Great to see KIRO putting in some effort for the Apple Cup. They could have done more, but at least they didn't do less, which they very well could have.

Also, interesting to see KIRO source a report from KHQ. Since they didn't send their own reporter to Pullman, this was the next best thing. I wonder if we will see more reports from KHQ, which, as the owner of the SWX regional sports network in Spokane, places a big emphasis on sports coverage, on KIRO throughout the college football season. Wouldn't be a bad arrangement to have when Gonzaga basketball inevitably makes a playoff run again.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

A Farewell to this Fox 13 Seattle host

Carly Henderson - co-host of Studio 13: Live - was laid off in the recent KCPQ expansion which we broke.  She posts her goodbye on FB.  She never really clicked on the pay for play lifestyle mid-morning show.   It will be cut to a half hour for awhile and moved to 10 a.m, according to reports, before moving back to 11 on Aug. 4.  And I am told it will remain 30 minutes, not be re-expanded to an hour.   Thank goodness. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16HFRSYM8x
