Our friends at ftvlive report that scabs were brought in to cover photographer shifts after the rank and file were suddenly scheduled to work four 10-hour days. They reportedly were brought in from the Cox flagship station in Atlanta, WSB. The union photgs are trying to get a new deal from the company but it's become a major war of words and actions. at this point, as we reported previously.

What's the point of photographers when everyone has a phone these days that can take photos and record videos. It seems like anyone can be a reporter or photojournalist. KIRO might as well step up to the plate and have their "digital" people (if they still have any) and cover something instead of "borrowing" material from the Times or the P-I. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteWhile I appreciate the need to cover photographer shifts at KIRO, I wonder how many shifts at WSB were left unfilled to accommodate this temporary arrangement.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I truly hope that the KIRO photographers are eventually able to reach a deal with Cox to keep them employed long term, properly compensated (living wages that reflect what it actually costs to live here), and doing the jobs they do so well.
