New weekend anchor starts soon on Seattle TV

Can confirm that Natalie Fahmy, whom we previously reported is coming to KOMO from Columbus, Ohio, TV, will be stepping into the weekend anchor/weekday reporter role vacated by Hannah Knowles, who left effective July 30.   She worked at WCMH in Buckeye land and at WKBW in Buffalo before that.  She is a Syracuse grad.   BTW Syracuse turns out a great number of the top sportscasters, Marv Albert Mike Tirico, Ian and Noah Eagle, Costas, Dick Stockton, Beth Mowins, Dave Pasch, Sean McDonough, Andrew Catalan, Scottt Hanson and Andrew Siciliano.

  1. What’s the word on Parella Lewis starting weather at KING?

  2. I was expecting her to start this week, but haven't heard an official start date. Nor have I heard if she will be the Chief Met snce she has more experience than all except Marriot. I'll keep checking.

  3. I know many people think that Marriott should have been given the promotion to Chief Met when Renner retired following the TEGNA buyouts back in 2016-17, but from what I been told, he is happy and content with the morning slot. Marriott certainly had more experience than Renner when he arrived at KING in 1986-87 and was working as a meteorologist (not on TV of course) before Renner himself came to Seattle in 1977-78. Mariott may hold out and finish out the year and then some for 2026 to cap off 40 years with KING5 and even (50?) years a meteorologist as a whole. While Parella has more experience than the others except Marriott as Wayne said, I will be more interested to see how she will work alongside them. I am sure TEGNA was going out on their affordable (cough "cheap" cough) route again bringing back Parella to Seattle and giving her the Chief Met job. Given her law enforcement background, hopefully she doesn't handcuff a weatherperson to the wall for mistaking an approaching cold front from Alaska for a bomb cyclone. That's my two cents. Cheers!

    1. I give KING a lot of credit for respecting Rich's desire to stay on the morning shift and not take on the chief meterologist role. It shows that they appreciate him and what he brings to the table. I look forward to seeing him mark 40 years at KING next year, should he wish to do so.

  4. Yes, RIch did not want to handle scheduling or vacation approvals, etc. He had a young son, too, and liked his life. KING might defer on a decision about a new chief for now. Parella has been posting Seattle stuff on X, but her profile does not say 'Chief Met." Maybe mgmt will help Rich to do weather admin work and leave the position be. Or the announcement of her hire might have some news on that. Stay tuned.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
