Who is this guy on Fox 13?

Never heard of him.  Anders Hirst.

Looks like anyone with a podcast, or as Fox 13 posted, a POSTCAST, can be on Washington Sports Wrap with Levine. Of course every Tim, Dick and Harry has a podcast these days.   Maybe I'll be next.

  1. Interesting that they used that as a description. His linkedin shows him as a Producer and Technical Director at KJR. I’d think sports producer would carry more weight than podcaster.

    1. Yes, they needed to connect him better to KJR, or call him a Seattle Sports Talk Producer or something more than a POSTCAST which tempts obscurity. Sports Wrap is probably short on guests and I wonder if if gets any ratings. It was up against Jeopardy at 7:30, now I guess it's considered an altenatiive to local and network news at 630, but the new show lead-in is not very good, IMHO. It promises state news but it's all imported with no original reporting on location that I can see. Send a reporter to Yakima and shoot four stories in two days. Next week, Spokane or Kelso/Centralia, and do the same. There are stories they can find in the local papers, for that matter, and make them video packages. That's what MMJs are for. There are ways to make the show title real.

  2. I thought Tegna, and therefore, KING, was in partnership with the Locked On sports podcast network. Interesting to see someone from there appearing on Fox 13 and not on KING given that partnership.

    1. To quote that timeless resource, Wikipedia, "The Locked On Podcast Network is a circle of more than 150 commercial sports podcasts produced in the United States providing daily news and commentary at the team and league level about American football, baseball, basketball, and ice hockey. The network also provides coverage of collegiate athletics for approximately 30 American institutions of higher learning."

Also, "Initially launched in 2016 by David Locke, radio play-by-play announcer for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association, Locked On Sports was purchased in 2021 by Tegna, an offshoot of the Gannett newspaper group."

  5. Ok, just walked down the street and asked passersby, "Have you ever heard of Locked On Sports?" The answer was "What are you talking about?" I rest my case.

    1. They don't seem to be particularly well known despite their large national presence and ownership by Tegna. Come to think of it, I don't think KING promotes the local Locked On podcasts very much. Maybe once in a while, but not as often as they should be, considering that they are co-owned, and there is undoubtely a portion (albeit a small one) of KING's viewership who would probably be interested in a local sports podcast or two.

    1. I'm as puzzled about it as you are. I would have expected him to pop up on KING. Not Fox 13.

  7. Seafair should make him a Grand Marshal.

  8. He is a personality on KJR. Not sure the difference between producer and dj or host though. But he is on the Furness show. But i didn't even realize the sports show was on a night other than Sunday

  9. Yeah, I scoped that out, but I'm just saying that, as a guest, I don't think he appeals to TV viewers. KJR is not that strong in the ratings, given the last book, with KIRO AM coming in at 4.2 and KJR a 1.3, down two tenths. He's also not iin the same league as the other hosts. My guess is that Furness, who used to be on Fox 13, is selling Hirst to Levine as a good guest to get him on the map. I would much rather see Salk, Stelton, Bumpas, etc. from KIRO or even Jessamyn from KJR, who at least is known to Cougs from doing football sidelines though not a show host.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
