"No jerks need apply"

The heartfelt, judgmental words of Julie Wolfe, outgoing King Seattle ND, whose first job as a regional news VP is to find her replacement.  That line in her job post is a total turn off to applicants. It speaks volumes about who's in charge and how she will operate.    And did GM & HR approve that?  What if an applicant thinks there was unfair treatment and rejection after she revealed this???     Is this a professional or pejorative approach to hiring?

  1. I can appreciate the idea of Wolfe wanting her replacement to be someone worthy of KING and its legacy, but this post is not going to achieve that. If anything, she has made it more likely that the applicant pool will consist of less than ideal candidates.

  2. It's petty. Honestly, never heard a lady called a jerk, per se, so I think this is prejudiced against men and sends a clear message.

    1. I can see how it can come across that way. Wolfe should give serious considerdation to removing this post and replacing it with one that is more professional. Its too late to put the toothpaste back in the tube completley, but it may not be too late to stop it from leaking any more.

  3. She's a solid news director and well-respected by the team — a loss for KING. However, her social media often comes off as cringeworthy and pandering to corporate.

    1. Yes, good credentials for sure, but I think the promotion to more power got to her head with that post.

  4. Sounds like she is well liked, and the sentiment is definitely appreciated by everyone still working so hard in this industry, but that is a statement to be made privately rather than written publicly in a professional job listing.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
