"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

My favorite Seafair tradition are graphics that refer to the “Blue Angles”! Happens every year.
ReplyDeleteI remember when everything in the whole city centered around Seafair. Now, a good percentage of the area population did not grow up here and there are so many other forms of entertainment, that it just does not have the same impact.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. Seafair sermed like a much bigger deal even just 15 years ago compared to how it is now. Today, it feels more like a blip on a crowded radar. I wonder how it will feel next year coming on the heels of the World Cup, which, while still being nearly a year away, already seems like a much bigger deal (and I'm not even a soccer fan).
DeleteIt HAS lost its luster and the noise and disruptions of the jets has become unconfortable and a traffic issue over several days.
ReplyDeleteAnd this year's traffic could be especially tough with the Revive I-5 work happening on the Ship Canal Bridge right now. Seafair has undoubtely brightened the spirits of many this beautiful Northwest weekend, but the best of moods can be wiped away with just a little bit of gridlock on I-5.
DeleteI didn't move here from Eastern Washington until I was an adult, but it's also my impression that the area, much smaller at that time, had a more communal spirit. It was kind of a "little engine that could" kind of feel.
ReplyDeleteThe region, additionally, was pretty much about boats and planes. Hydros are a combination of the two.
The region is still heavilly about boats and planes, but the evolving tech industry looms large.
DeleteGreat to see KONG offering up live coverage of the hydroplane races this year. The Northwest tradition of such coverage lives on!
ReplyDeleteBack when KIRO really did Seafair right it was a good audience draw and a big morale booster inside the station. Everybody wanted to work the parade or the races and it was a ton of fun.
ReplyDeleteKIRO's on-air talent always did seem a little more upbeat when Seafair rolled around each year. Even those who weren't taking part in the special coverage of the Torchlight Parade or the Hydro races seemed to have an extra spring in their step in the days leading up to those events each year.
