How did these two get honored on July 4th?

I wasn't going to post until Monday but seeing Carmen Best, former Seattle Police Chief who poorly presided over the Capitol Hill protests, and Eric Johnson, the KOMO guy who said 'Seattle Is Dying' end up on the fireworks show, infuriated me.  This Queen and King Neptune stuff doesn't wash with these two..  Just dumb tone deaf selections.    Both tried to ruin this city by bad decision making,  Seafair should be embarrassed.

  1. Definitley not the best selections. Seafair could have done so much better. I don't know how Queen and King Neptune are selected (I've never been much of a Seafair person), but some changes to that process may be needed to prevent future humilation.

  2. Well the Seafair Prez is a former KOMO producer and EP, if memory serves, so she might have pushed Eric, but not sure why Best was selected. They all looked the other way, but it looks like nobody cared (but me..LOL)

    1. It would make sense that the Seafair president would push for Eric to be given the crown if she worked with him in the past. Then again, it may have just been Eric's popularity with the general public (even though Seattle is Dying and its sister documentary turned you against Eric, and you sucessfully got me to reconsider my stance on Eric, there are many people out there who still like him) that made him seem like a good choice.

  3. It's simply the high irony of these two being honored by the organization. Maybe next year Edwin Diaz and Jenny Durkan? Or maybe the DUI-laden RIchard Sherman and Jamie Tompkins???

    1. Richard Sherman may be DUI-laden, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get the nod at some point in the future given his status as a Seahawks icon. That may matter more than his DUI offenses, since Sherman, like Eric Johnson, is still well liked by the public at large (I've never been a Sherman fan, and his DUI offenses certainly didn't help), even though it shouldn't for an honor like this.

  4. Might as well give Warren Moon the title too!!

  5. Well liked by fanboys, as far as Sherman is concerned. Johnson is living off his Heroes legacy. It's cover for his sins against Seattle. But as Carson once said, 'You buy the premise, you buy the bit."

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
